Locked my key fob in the hatch. Literally.

I was leaving Target tonight and as i was closing the hatch i had left my keys RIGHT next to the hatch locking mechanism and it left a gap when i closed it but it also locked and i was unable to use the unlock button on the door handle as well as the trunk release button. I felt pretty dense when i had realized that i closed the trunk ON my keys. :shakes head:

So fellow Z folk, don't leave your keys on the rim of the hatch or you WILL need someone to bring the spare.

Im also not entirely sure why it wouldn't unlock when i pressed the hatch release or unlock button on the handle. Anyone have this happen to them?

:iagree: Yeah that doesn't make any sense. If the key is anywhere within close proximity of the car, the car unlock buttons and trunk button should function as its right there in the car. Very strange.

still doesnt make sense tbh, i dont think keyfob batteries run out unless its really old(like 5-6)

even with low battery it should still be able to detect the signal
maybe the battery was dead?

Low battery or perhaps the transponder signal had a hard time reaching the receiver since it was sandwiched between a bunch of metal.

Another reason the fob never leaves my pocket ;)

I just hate that sometimes the key fob slides out my pocket and into the sides of the seat or under the seat, it's quite annoying and gets me frustrated lol.

I was as confused as everyone else is as to why it wouldn't unlock. I'm thinking that when i shut the hatch, it had pressed one of the buttons and somehow jammed it, rendering the unlock buttons useless?

Same when out and about. When I am driving though I put my wallet, phone and keys/fob in the cubby where the GPS goes on the touring model.

I hate when that happens. I had that happen to me once when I answered the phone and my ear piece was dead so I was trying to use the speaker phone but ended up dropping the phone on the left side of my drivers seat. I had to yell to the person on the other end that my phone fell and I can't hang up.

Oh, yeah. Key fob goes in the pocket. No exceptions.
