Radio trouble....Help!

I have a base Z and got the radio out of a Touring Z...took the stock one out and put the touring radio in last night and everything works fine but there is hardly any sound that comes out at all even turned all the way up. Does anyone know if it HAS to run off the amp???? I have the amp but i just wanted to change the radio out for now and not mess with it. Needless to say I ended up putting the original one back in. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it is from a car with Bose then they have a amp in the trunk by the silver bar ,but I don't know if it is just a sub amp or system amp.
