Stock or Modded???
Does everyone mod their Zs? I'm not a big fan of modding, probably because I love my Z the way it is. Although, there are some really sick rims i've seen on other member's Zs.
|
I've modded it quite a bit, although I've kept most of my stock components, just in case I need them.
Click my signature pic to see what all I've had done. My seats and door card are wildly modded, one-of-a-kind, but nothing far over the top. I have visual mods inside, and performance mods where they matter. I started with a base Z, so I have the Akebono BBK, thanks to a raffle. I also got an oil cooler so I could track and/or thrash the car in warmer temperatures. I have 19" rims, but I kept my stock 18's for winter tires. And I have intakes for the sound and tiny bit of extra grunt. I also got the fog lamp, because it rocks in heavy rain or fog. I bought the very cheapest Z I could, so that I could mod it and personalize it as I liked. |
modding is something eventually you cant really deny. These are mods i feel like are essential for the Z. Oil cooler of course if you dont have one already
#1 Sound System-worst in the business #2 ClearBra. Paint worst in the business #4 Exhaust- Stock Note is borderline embarrassing for a sports car, quieter than a 350z.. Tires is up to you, a nice set of aftermarket tires really bring the car to life. |

I did also get clearbra, and I'm glad I did. I have toyed with the idea of an aftermarket exhaust, but I kinda like being quiet and stealthy. |

My Z didn't have the clear bra when I bought it (i bought it used), any ideas of where I can go to get this done? Or should I just head to the dealer? It's too quiet for my taste, I don't want to mod it. Unless I can make it sound like the g35 coupe, then I would mod it in an instant  |

mod it, the mod bug will hit you if havent got it you arent doing it right. :rofl2::tup:

Exhaust it definitely needs. Everything else is really alright stock as is. Maybe some tints, a rear fog light, and possibly rims depending if you have the base rims, if not just black out the sport wheels.
|
Yea, FI exhaust FTW!

FI is so sick the look the sound well worth the money.
|
The car stock begs for a better exhaust note. Not necessarily that much louder, but just a better tone, as the stock tone is pretty unrefined sounding.
Other than that, I think the mods are very dependent on what you use the car for. Driving hard? Springs/coilovers, brake upgrades, and an oil cooler are all necessary. I think the Z is a great car to mod since it already has a lot of character, so it's easy to justify molding that to how you like it. |
Anything that is good can be made better

I've added a few mods...

Bone stock, at the moment....still prioritizing the "wish list" for mods....not much interested in "show" mods....and the "go" mods decisions really hinge on whether or not I want to take the FI route on a brand new motor and I honestly haven't made up my mind on that point yet.
|
Drove a beater commuter for over 10 years with no mods... A stock 4-banger truck just has no mod appeal to me. Great reliability, no fun.
For a performance car it's always easy to feel like you want a little more. Always trolling the forums to see what people are doing. Love the idea of the twin turbos. Now that would change the car massively! Little over the top for me as a DD at this point. Maybe someday... |
$$$$ issue for me at the moment.
But if i did mod, one of the first things I would do is make those sport package wheels look proper by lowering the car and aligning them with the fenders. I don't like the tucked in look that much. Look-wise that's really the only thing i'd improve. I don't like how you nosy the cabin is but i don't think i'd go with dynamat. Something that's far more annoying to me is how easily the car becomes unsettled on bumpy roads. I feel like i can't even begin pushing the car even on straights with out risking my life. I wonder if good coilovers would solve this. Basic boltons would be nice. And why... why did i have to listen to this: Z34 Saclam Exhaust Sound Clip - YouTube I mean, i can't afford it, and it's probably the worst bang for the buck mod you can do performance-wise, but i still want one! |
+1 for mod.

A new one is gonna set you back a lot more. They start at about $1100 plus shipping. It's worth every penny though. |
The Z is definitely a car that you can mod, but don't need to go over the top on.
I agree, stock exhaust note is shameful, stock G37's and G35's sounded more aggressive. The wheel gap hurts my eyes. I think Exhaust, Drop and Spacers can leave you looking more aggressive but still close to stock. I've obviously done more, but if I stopped there, I'd be ok with it (well not really lol) |
The car after the mods (specially after the RJM clutch pedal) is like a totally diff car. All the mods I've done made is really nice.
I agree with the above comment regarding the bumpy roads however lowering my Z on Swift springs helped that a lot, and uneven surfaces are better followed with whiteline sway-bars. I'm trying to find a good price for Koni Yellow shocks right now, so far KamiSpeed seems to be the best deal. I'm hoping that will improve handling even more before I put a better wheels & tires combo on for the complete package. The FI exhaust was the most expensive mod and rightfully so, it makes the car feel so ******* awesome... :) If anyone can drop me a good line for the Koni Yellows price, please do ;) |

It is hard for me not to mod any vehicle. Every time I get a new one I say that I am not, but a few months down the road the bug bites:tup:

I hated the stock exhaust sound so that went, stock sound system I didn't like and I wanted NAV and BT so I bought a Pioneer system. Wish I had done a clear bra before the road trips I did as my paint sickens me. I have more mods planed for the Z. Most of my vehicles I won't modify except for my Jeeps and the Z. The others all stay stock.
