370Z Backup Camera from Infiniti

I went by an infiniti dealer this morning to see about getting the backup cam for my 370Z using the one they use for the G37. The tech said it could be done, but you have a harness, and added module that plugs into your navi unit. Has anyone dont this yet? I have seen all the talk about after market and all that but this guy is saying for about $500 it could be done. Let me know if anyone has done it yet and if so what part numbers did you get from Infiniti. Thanks for all your help.

I would be interested in doing this too. Was that $500 for parts and labor?

tonmed123 07-01-2009 11:18 AM

Dude. PM me the dearlership if you get it done. Maybe post some pics. If they can do it using the stock navi Im in.

nogoodname 07-01-2009 11:28 AM

dwhitley0381 07-01-2009 11:54 AM

Zaku 07-08-2009 12:41 AM

Maybe I should Hold off buying a base Z and get a touring so I can do this, because that was my biggest problem with buying a Z I can't See nothing X__X out the back

g96818 07-08-2009 03:55 AM

i seen 350's with them, might not be the same camera, but it was a camera

tvfreakazoid 07-09-2009 02:13 PM

If you end up doing it, let us know how it turns out.

Canadian370Z 07-09-2009 03:25 PM

I would definitely be interested in doing this.

Well, 370z does have a factory backup camera, but they won't give it to the US market. Man, JDM always have the good stuff. Accord to some Japan locals I know, they keep the good stuff and ship the crappier ones to the rest. You should see their factory alarm system for the Z.

When I test drove the G37 after getting my 370 I was surprised it had the backup camera considering the infiniti had a similar set up as our cars... I have been wanting it since and wondering if it was possible .. Thanks for the info .. I'm goin to go to my nearest dealership and ask... Let me know if you get yours done cause if it truly is $500 I'm ready ...

Rear view camera

Does it come with infrared (night-vision) camera? I'm looking for one but only have seen one that is a camera with LED lights.

phelan 07-09-2009 06:30 PM

That's interesting, I saw the JDM spec cameras for more somewhere a while back. If they can do it for less I'd be really, really happy.

I am looking at hooking up a back up camera direct to the rca inputs. Disable the park brake switch. HIt the aux button before you back up done.......

Now if it works who knows my cam won't be in for a week

Cost of Cam 40 dollars

Cjanik 07-12-2009 11:50 AM

the Nissan Murano has the backup camera that the fairlady's and G37's have.

my mom just purchased the new murano yesterday and I was suprised when she started backing up, it has the green lines of path of travel and red/orange/green marks for distance while backing up on the screen.

edit - just looked it up, $423 for the camera and $247 for the controller assembly.

not sure if it comes with the wiring and all, but thats the only two parts having to do with wiring that I can find.

If you wait maybe a year or 2, when back-up cameras become common i.e. even Kia will put them standard on their cars, it'll be a lot cheaper than $800 or whatever ridiculous price they want.

Cjanik 07-12-2009 12:51 PM

I agree, probably will be.
I did notice if you search ebay for "Nissan rear view", there's a murano back up cam + Nav + radio for 600 dollars. too bad that person didnt split it all up in different auctions.

Shift 07-18-2009 01:25 PM

Ok the mailman just arrived with the back-up cam. With a quick hookup and check, it works great. That is as long as the E-brake is up. Will be doing some more testing to see if disabling the E-brake will let it work in reverse?
If anyone has any Info on this please let me know. If all goes well I'll have a Bac-up cam for 40 bucks. :happydance:

P.S. you still have to hit the Aux button, but hey for 40. bucks

dwhitley0381 07-20-2009 07:09 AM

Please update on the cam if it worked and where did you get it from. Thanks

Shift 07-21-2009 04:20 PM

The cam does work, but I haven't had a chance to install yet. Working out of town right now. The Cam is the same one that AK used for his HU. Ebay item from Hong Kong

caneman88 07-21-2009 09:14 PM

i tried it works for about 10 feet than a message comes on the screen saying input will return when car is in park with the brake on

terrycs 07-23-2009 01:15 AM

You guys are going through the AUX inputs which will lock out the video when the car is not stopped. Stopped = 7AT in P and e-brake engaged. This method of installing / viewing a backup cam can be done by cutting the ebrake wire to the HU and grounding the HU side AND putting a switch on the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) wire to the HU.

The G35/37's backup cam system includes a steering angle sensor (in steering column), a back up cam module (typically in the trunk), a spoiler mounted cam AND a unique HU. It is not locked out by the VSS and e-brake signals. The harness for the back up cam cars are also not already installed in the NON-back up cam cars. In short, getting a functioning FACTORY back-up cam with working trajectory in the Z is not gonna be cheap.
