The sloping hood line and low profile of Z cars contribute to the chipping, SUVs and other cars with grills and other front facing trim pieces get less chipping. Nissan's paint is no worse or better than other auto makers. I would be willing to guess most auto makers get their paints from companies like PPG.

Yep, paint sucks.:eekdance:

Meanwhile, my 2012 Juke, which now has 10,000 miles -- is flawless; not one chip on the entire vehicle.

Go figure.

Its horrible, since about 2000 Nissans paint on the Z and Max suck balls....Most Z's and Maxi's I see from 00 on for the Max and 03 for Z have sandblasted looking front ends. :eek2:

The color is sexy as hell, but the quality is

The paint seems even weaker than our G37's, which is already known for weak paint. I took it from Knoxville to Nashville and back twice, and there are at least a dozen small chips in the front of the hood and bumper. My old 2006 Camry didn't have any of these issues, and I didn't start taking car of its paint until late 2010. I'm also getting discoloration (slightly green/yellow dots) from bugs or bird droppings. They are about 1mm wide. I'm actually considering repainting it further down the line.

wdkwang 10-12-2012 01:59 AM

my front bumper was littered with chips from doing car rallys and driving home every night through road construction on my usual highway. one day taking it for service at the stealership, some dumb f0ck curbed the bottom of the bumper hard. he apparently confused the car for a 4x4 cause he must of sped down the ramp for the bumper to curb that bad. so i got real tight bout that and demanded my bumper be repainted. they took it to a body shop they're friendly with. i'd say 95% perfect. all the tiny indentations from the chips are still there but it's better than before. i just hope the paint they used is better than OEM

its to the point the paint is flaking off bc the clearcoat is gone.

i took it to a small dealership, and they blamed me, or the enviroment, for eating through the paint.

I have owned 1 american and 3 different japanese makes of cars and motorcycles, this has never happened!

I do park my car outside, but I highly doubt the sun could do this in 16 month.

Anyone experienced this with their Z? Any suggestions about how i should deal with this with the dealership?

thanks in advance

order a kit from DrColorChip.com and see if it works out for you. it's the best touch up paint kit i know and use.

mantella87 10-12-2012 02:55 AM

Glad I'm not alone. Here I am buying all kinds of stuff to touch up these chips thinking I have the worst luck on the planet.

You guys are misunderstand my fustration and anger. I can deal with dozens of chips, but paint cracking on top of my hood (near the windshield wiper) is NOT acceptable at 16 month (even if you never wash or wax or park outside. Which is not the case for me) !!

any suggestions on how i should talk to the dealer about this next week?

shaun66 10-12-2012 12:37 PM

I have that on my roof, I thought it was hail damage :icon14:

Walk in and be like, "HEY BRUH sup wit dis paint?" and start flipping **** like this: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ rawwwwr.

Seriously, just look at the dealerships that are on this forum and talk to them. If none of them are close to you then you'll just have to walk in and talk with the manager. It's not a GTR but they'd treat you better than if you had a Versa

I wax like every other weekend, don't know if that's too much, but when I see bird bombs I don't care if it's midnight, I'm washing my car.

 Good - I am not the only one.

HamZ 10-23-2012 06:56 PM

So basically if I buy used I shouldn't bother with a clear-bra?

Good Luck.

Ubetit 10-23-2012 08:13 PM

I see this same complaint on every car forum i am on. Blame the EPA. My Civic CI paint has crows feet all over the hood which HOA says is envoirnmental "fallout." Sure it is, that's why it's cracking from the inside out.

^ My 15 year old Nissan has better paint than my brand new one.

PharmDZ 10-23-2012 08:34 PM

HAH you should see my friend's "brand new" Subaru WRX. It's absolutely wrecked. Nissan doesn't have the worst of paint, although it isn't great either.

LakeShow 10-23-2012 09:34 PM

Subaru also has some horrible paint as well. Paint quality overall across many manufacturers is getting worse due to environmental regulations.

Mr&Mrs 10-23-2012 09:38 PM

Agreed

Fishey 10-23-2012 09:42 PM

Nissan does have pretty crappy paint IMHO.. Altho, it wouldn't stop me from buying one.

Ubetit 10-23-2012 10:10 PM

^ All the car manufacturers buy from the same 4 or 5 big manufacturers - BASF/Glasurit, PPG, Sherwin Williams, DuPont and Nippon. To make your paint environmentally "friendly," the EPA forced them to remove all the toxic but durable chemicals.

2xtreme1 10-24-2012 01:24 AM

I've learned to live with rock chips -_-
It sucks oh well

DCNISMO 10-24-2012 07:56 AM

Carlyle Group just bought the auto paint business from Dupont, Carlyle will now pick apart the pieces of the company and send the business to China to make auto paint.....not a good thing.

Maybe they'll put lead back in it like they put in all of thier other products. :tiphat: That should improve durability.
