Are you guys always turn on SynchoRevmatch on daily driving?

I just wonder that do people always turn on the Syncho Revmatch while daily drive or it just need to be turn on during racing. I Love to turn it on, but I dont sure is that gonna make more damage to my tranmission If I turn it on all the time and is it waste a lot of gas?:shakes head:

Z_ealot 09-09-2012 11:46 PM

short answer would be that the feature if anything is supposed to help prolong the life of the clutch and yes i leave it on for daily driving all the time with no impact on fuel economy.

the_student 09-10-2012 01:24 AM

If the wife is with me and shes tired, I have it on. But usually, I have it off most of the time. It keeps your skills in check.

tWeEzY 09-10-2012 01:44 AM

so it dont stay on unless you manually turn it off? I thought i read on a thread here somewhere that its engaged once turned on even if you shutdown or start the car.

BGTV8 09-10-2012 01:49 AM

I leave it on all the time (as I do for VDC on the street) until the week before a track session when I turn it off so I can practise heel/toe in daily driving to refresh the muscle memory.

This.

Leave it on. It'll help preserve the clutch.

It really does nothing more then a better job of a human bliping the throttle: no damage, no risk, no wasted fuel.

I have never turned mine off. Ever. Our Z is very happy. :driving:

if you have a manual, LEAVE IT ON. it saves the clutch massive wear. i have 95k on the odo now and it pulls just as hard as it did on day one. the gas burned by revving up is very tiny

TheGreatOne 09-10-2012 08:10 AM

On all the time

Plus my downshifts sound way more aggressive with it on lol.

red6spd 09-10-2012 08:39 AM

I only turn it off so I can remember what its like to drive a stick without this feature. Remember it works on up shifts as well as down.

I remembers your setting. If you turn it off, it stays off. If you leave it on, it stays on.

I always leave mine on too.

KSFastah 09-10-2012 09:01 AM

I leave it off all the time....I prefer to do the rev matching myself. It's second nature to me.

ImportConvert 09-10-2012 10:37 AM

I leave it on. I paid for it.

houkouonchi 09-10-2012 10:42 AM

I leave it off except when I am at the track. Honestly not a huge difference in smoothness when I do it myself vs leave it on so I doubt its makings a huge difference for me in clutch wear.

nepali 09-10-2012 11:03 AM

I leave it on all the time. Helps me downshift like a pro! :)

DIGItonium 09-10-2012 12:28 PM

I leave it on, and I use it all the time [now that I'm lazy]. I turn it off when my friends drive the car, but then I realize when they downshift they literally force it in without rev matching. :shakes head:

tommyguns 09-10-2012 12:40 PM

seems like I need to turn mine back on :icon18: :driving: :happydance:

I keep it on. I still haven't gotten the hang of the clutch in this car (it has terrible feel compared to most in my opinion). If I want to practice my "real" manual transmission I drive my Morgan which pretty much has no synchros - double clutching takes a while to master for sure.

YES!!!

Gosh when I see people do that, I cringe. People were just never taught how to do it when they first learn.

370Z Purist 09-10-2012 02:55 PM

I've left mine off. Clutch wear, sure, but meh.

Telephone 09-10-2012 03:06 PM

Turned mine OFF during the test drive. Never turned it back on.

NewtoZ's5 09-10-2012 04:23 PM

I turn mine off in the stop-n-go traffic. Otherwise it's usually on.

.c2 09-10-2012 04:33 PM

It does waste a lot more gas if you have it on, if you do not normally revmatch while downshifting. I only turn mine on when I have more than one person in the passenger seat lol :ughdance: Otherwise I revmatch myself and keep it off.

Dwight Frye 09-10-2012 04:44 PM

Mine stays off for daily driving. When I take a spirited mountain drive I turn it on but after driving for over 40 years it's hard to get used to it. I already know how to drive a manual transmission and rev match and I have to consciously remember not to blip the throttle or double clutch when driving hard with the SRM on.

Z-Girl 12 09-10-2012 05:27 PM

Wow, I've only used mine twice in the six months I've had it. Didn't really like, I will give it another shot soon though.

Highway 09-10-2012 07:52 PM

Have never turned it on since I was scared by it during the test drive.

I have been driving a manual so long that it just feels weird leaving it on.

mayday813 09-10-2012 10:07 PM

I've been driving manual transmission cars for more years than I care to admit and the rev match feature is a GREAT feature. I have to admit that when I first purchased the vehicle that the muscle memory of my right foot tried to rev match on downshifts when the rev match was turned on. I eventually got used to the feature and it does a impeccable job of rev matching on downshifts. More consistent than I could ever hope of achieving!

AK370Z 09-10-2012 11:50 PM

I only turned off twice :o in last 3 years. I was soo good at downshifting when I had my 350z. Then I bought the 370Z with the synchroREV match. It does such an amazing job, it's just addicting to keep it on. I must say, if I get another manual gearbox car, I kinda have to re-master the downshifting. Also, I should mention, synchroREV match ALSO affects how you up shift too. Your RPM is kept on hold at the perfect up shift point. SRM doesn't let the RPM drop as it would with a normal 6speed gearbox. So, yup my up shifting skills down the drain too. But considering the fact I'm at 60,000 miles and my clutch is still good, you gotta hand it to SRM. It's an addicting feature. Especailly with my HKS exhaust when I down shift to around 6000 RPM, it's music to my ear (and people around or behind me :) ) :driving:

ShinyBlueZ 09-10-2012 11:59 PM

lemme use this opportunity to ask you guys about your synchrorev matches!

so in my car.. when I downshift/rev-match myself.. the car is smooth and there's no shift-jerk. but for some reason my synchrorev isn't that smooth. it feels like.. the car blips the throttle for me, but not quite enough.. so I still get that engine-bog/unstable feeling when I let the clutch out.

I don't think my S-R system could be faulty since the car is pretty much new (plus it 'does' rev) but I haven't experienced the 'magic' of the revolutionary system like all the reviews/members rave about.

do you guys 'quickly' release the clutch after you downshift and it revs? I think maybe it's because I slowly let it out thinking it'll be a smoother shift, and in those 1-2 seconds the revs drop a bit?

?

I don't know why you get the jerk downshifting. You can always leave the negative battery terminal off overnight see if that resets it.

As for the bold paragraph, that's what you are SUPPOSE to do in a 6 speed gearbox. Slowly let the clutch out for a smoother up shifting. I did that in my 350z. BUT with SRM on, it will hold your RPM during upshifting. Next time you drive your car, try this. Shift from 2nd to 3rd gear (could be any lower to higher gear) ---> but keep your clutch depressed to the floor ---> you'll see that the RPM will drop and STOP at the desired RPM for that 3rd gear. YOu still have another good 2 seconds and then SRM start to let the RPM drop beyond that point. So for smoother upshifting with SRM, your best bet is to upshift, wait for the RPM to drop (and stop at the specific RPM), then let the clutch go. You can even let the clutch go very quickly but it won't give you any jerk or shiftshock as your RPM is kinda stopped at the desired rpm. lol I hope it makes sense. :driving:

AK370Z 09-11-2012 12:13 AM

here's a video kinda explains the upshift RPM holding:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27gW9ZS0rkI

Sometimes If i'm driving lets say 4th gear, and I wanna rev at a friend of mine who's driving next to me, all I do is clutch in ---> full rev---> still clutched in -----> RPM slowly drops and STOPS at the desired rpm for 4th gear ----> it'll stay there for a good 2 seconds before it drops it beyond that point. then I quickly let the clutch go. No jerk.

ShinyBlueZ 09-11-2012 12:24 AM

yeah.. the upshifting with SRM is all good. but the downshifting, after it revs.. that's when I slowly let the clutch out. I thought maybe the revs were dropping in that time and that's why I got the shift shock. but no.. it looks like it should totally hold the revs steady till I release the clutch regardless.

maybe I'll try to reset the system and see if it helps any. otherwise I'll go to the next Z meet around here and compare with some of the guys to see if I need to take it in since I'm still under warranty

I haven't driven another SRM car for comparison.. maybe I should go test drive one and see if there's a big difference hehe thanks for the tip dude!

In the past I always heel toed. When I first got the car it was a feature that I used once in awhile. I can mimic the rev match naturally but I do not remember when it is on or off so I let the car do it and it's off, or I do it while it is on.

Now it is on all the time and no more doing it "together".

RE: do you guys 'quickly' release the clutch after you downshift and it revs? Yes.

With that attitude, I hope you didn't get the Touring model. Those heated seats will melt you. :icon17:
