Any company that can get Brembo and ZF to specially design parts for their cars is definitely up-and-coming. The Genesis coupe is an impressive car and those that fail to accept this don't know their ****. There was a time where I would say I would never drive a Nissan (because of Datsun) and now, I'm in the market for one.

There are rumors of Hyundai preparing to release a luxury brand some time in the next couple of years. I will definitely be looking into it when and if that brand comes out though I think the timing couldn't be any more awful.

Hyundai's reliability is way better than some think. Especially the newer years.

Hyundai ranked at 8th in the most recent (Dec 08) Consumer Report reliability survey. That's up 7 steps from last year. The only non-premium brands that did better than Hyundai are...

Scion: 1st
Honda: 3rd
Toyota: 4th
Subaru: 7th

Kia is the real big winner though, as it's ranked at 10th, up whopping 12 steps from last year.

Nissan was ranked at 14th and Nissan's reliability isn't bad at all This is at least the second year that Hyundai did better than Nissan, and this year it's not even close.

"The two closely related South Korean nameplates, Hyundai and Kia, rank right up there with the better Japanese makers. Most of their models scored average or better, with only the Hyundai Entourage and Kia Sedona minivans receiving below-average scores."

Here's some info on the R-Spec version

Hyundai Debuts a High-Performance Blank Canvas for Tuners: Genesis Coupe R-Spec

CHICAGO, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- When the colors of your new turbocharged rear-wheel-drive sport coupe are named after international racing circuits, you'd better have the performance and confidence to back it up. Now, Hyundai is upping the ante by announcing an R-Spec version of the all-new 2010 Genesis Coupe, designed to appeal to true enthusiasts who want a low starting price and the ability to tune their car to their own specifications. R-Spec will be available as a mid-2010 model year introduction.

R-Spec provides genuine track-readiness in an affordable model. The R-Spec adds core performance equipment to the most affordable 2.0T model, such as: Track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo(R) braking system, Torsen limited-slip differential, and R-Spec badging. To further reduce cost and weight, it also eliminates some non-essential convenience equipment such as: Bluetooth(R), automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls. The Genesis Coupe R-Spec will be priced at $23,750 and $3,000 less than the 2.0T Track model, leaving tuners with extra cash for their own choice of aftermarket performance upgrades. Appropriately, the R-Spec will be available in three performance oriented exteriors colors: Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red.

R-Spec equipment includes:

2.0-liter low-pressure turbocharged intercooled four-cylinder engine with dual continuously variable valve timing delivering 210-hp, an estimated 30 mpg EPA highway rating and a top speed of 137 mph
6-speed close-ratio manual transmission
Electronic Stability Control with Traction control, ABS, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution and Brake Assist
19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with staggered-width high-performance summer-compound Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires (225/40YR19 front, 245/40YR19 rear)
Brembo(R) braking system with 13.4-inch ventilated front rotors, 42mm four-piston fixed front calipers (red), 13.0-inch ventilated rear rotors, 32mm+28mm four-piston fixed rear calipers (red)
Track-tuned suspension (higher-rate coil springs, higher-control shock absorbers, 25mm front stabilizer bar, 22mm rear stabilizer bar, front strut brace)
Torsen-type limited-slip differential
R-Spec badging
Quick-ratio hydraulic steering (2.7 turns lock-to-lock)
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Front, side, side air curtain air bags
Active front head restraints
Driver's lumbar support
Air conditioning
Remote keyless entry system
Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob
Power windows (one-touch up and down), door locks and mirrors
AM/FM/XM/MP3/CD audio system with six speakers
iPod/USB/Aux jack connectivity
Projector beam headlamps
Lightweight temporary spare with aluminum wheel (T135/80D18)
Note: Automatic transmission not available with R-Spec

Rhys Millen will be participating in the 09 Formula Drift season, Pikes Peak, and Redline Time Attack with the 550hp Genesis Coupe.

"According to Hyundai, the goal is a 2,400-pound curb weight for Millen's drifter. That's down almost 1,000 pounds from the stock 3,397-pound Genesis coupe.

The Red Bull Hyundai Genesis coupe drift car should debut during the first Formula D event at the Long Beach Grand Prix, April 16-19, 2009.

Inside Line says: If successful, Millen's motorsports campaign could be a catalyst for the new Genesis coupe's popularity with young American car enthusiasts. It has the potential to be the new car of choice for the tuner set, taking its place alongside the Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru Impreza WRX. — John Pearley Huffman"

It'll be interesting to see how it does in April.

Who cares.:worship:

bossman 02-15-2009 08:30 PM

i dont get why ppl even compare these 2.. like i get that the genesis is gonna be a remarkable car and a breakthrough for hyundai but i'd be surprised if it kept up with the new mustang let alone the new z. i personally doubt it's any better than the 350.. just look at the numbers.. plus hyundai hasn't been known to build great engines like the vq or bmw inline 6.

also, the z is in porsche cayman s territory.. you think the gen can come even close to that? i don't think so

Namir 02-15-2009 09:01 PM

But our shenanigans are cheeky and fun!

The Genesis coupe has the right formula and I'm glad they made it, but I most likely won't consider one. I'll try to test drive it though, maybe it will change my mind.

Anyone who makes a creditable entry into the RWD 300+HP coupe market deserves a fair chance and everyone's good wishes to compete with the rest. Looks and badging are one thing, rubber to the pavement performance is another.

Doesn't mean you have to buy it, but it deserves credit where credit is due. Everyone starts somewhere with a dream for where they want to get to. Some make it, some don't, let the games begin :stirthepot:

^^^ +1. Competition and innovation are always healthy. I like heritage though as well so not interested.

Asheth 02-15-2009 10:59 PM

Well from that ad right there even if we don't see the Genesis as competition it is clear that Hyundai see's the Z as competition aswell as the BMW 335i

zsport1 02-16-2009 09:49 AM

Looks pretty good from this angle. You can still see the head of the penis car.
