You got me, I'm busted! :bowrofl: Yeah, we were talking about brakes and I said (sarcastically) that they're a HUGE problem on the street when you have to haul the car down from 130 MPH a dozen times in a row. |

Here is my take on this topic. There is no denying that the STI and Evo are fast and very good handling vehicles. As a matter of fact I test drove them both before making the decision to buy my 370Z. When comparing all three, I felt the 370Z edged them both in all around performance.
However, what you're about to read was the big deal breaker for me not buying the STI or Evo. After test driving the Evo and walking out of the showroom with my son, he pointed to an elderly lady (around 70-80) and said "Dad! ... look, that old lady just purchased the car we drove." I had to explain to him that the older lady purchased a Lancer not an Evo. He said "No ... I remember it read Lancer on the back of the car we drove." And that's when it dawned on me ... "No way in hell am I buying a suped-up four door granny car. The same goes for the STI. I wanted a two seater sports car and nothing else ... period. When you compare the styling/looks of the Z to the STI or Evo, they just don't compare. The Z looks freaking awesome. So ask yourself this question. Do you want a suped-up four door granny car, or the three year in a row DSPORT Magazine sports car of the year.* The choice is pretty simple! :happydance: |
This is too funny of a thread...
Is an STI a Sexually Transmitted Infection ? Davey, even your cat is in shock....How did the brakes work ? |
From Bergen County, then yes.
Your Z would get crushed by most Sti's due to the fact that none of them are stock. Most of them are Stage II meaning that they would walk you. Unless you build your motor or if you have more money, go turbo! I always get teased by evo and sti owners as well. But the difference is driving a Sports Coupe vs a sedan w/ turbo. I love my Z a lot and it's not always about who can go faster in a straight line. Meet me at the track! :) |

Sorry, I don't watch south park anymore and missed that episode I guess???. But if you don't watch south park and see that. It just seemed over the top. But my bad. Ha and yeah I am racist, I hate all races equally. Lol |

As for the old granny 4 door car. Well this old granny car was picking on and beating up a 09 Viper ACR, 05 Viper (intake, headers, mid pipe, exhaust, throttle body and tune), 05 Corvette at the track. The only one in my run group that was a challange was a STi. Me and the driver of the STI were fighting for second place all day and only a tenth of a second between our lap times. EvoX Time Attack #1 - YouTube 423hp EvoX GSR vs. 05 Viper - Time Attack - YouTube imo, the EvoX is better then the 370z, and i've owned both and tracked both. The EvoX is better on and off the truck, end of story...lol. |

Seriously? I'm sure you can come up with more important things in your life to be concerned about if you put a little thought into it. |

Sti's and Evo's with stock turbos move like they are in molasses in higher gears. Boost is fun when it kicks in but how often are you cruising in third or mid 4th anyway. My buddy has a 2004 STi making 275whp while my Z in peak form was putting close to 310-320whp, it wasn't even close.

I will say this, though, your results at an event like that vs. cars running on street tires with who knows who driving them or how hard they are pushing aren't really a valid measurement of anything other than how much your own driving improved over the course of several events. :tiphat: |
I owned an EVO too, it is a toss up with the Z stock to stock and that is simply because the EVO comes with better tires stock. EVO has shorter gearings and more torque, but it lacks the straight line speed and balance.
Do you really think your car is faster than a Viper? You might be faster, but not the car. Also I have a better chance of seeing a chupacabra than a stock evo anyway, most have intake/exhaust and the whole works with it. Quote:

Why are you annoyed. You should be smug like me that you are driving an attractive car instead of an ugly *** EVO or STI, regardless of those car's 1/4 mile times.

I own a 2010 wrx which has the 265 hp. And have test driven an STI and a 370z. I fell in love with the 370z when I test drove it, but from the short amount of time I drove it, I can say that the WRX and STI definitely felt quicker to highway speeds than the Z. Granted that the Z I test drove was a brand new 2012 and I didnt go past 4k rpm, but even with me not going past 4k rpm my wrx "feels" quicker. But then again a turbo cooper S might feel quicker in first than several NA cars.

Brakes.... i can come into a turn a hell of alot faster and brake later (but yet still hit the apex) with the Evo. The 370z i had no confidence in the brakes at all. The only part that the 370z beat the Evo on the track imo was straight line. Which doesnt mean ****, hence why i beat 2 vipers that would pull away from me on the rear stretch but i would quickly catch up and pass with braking later and taking turns faster. I'm not downing the 370z by any means. But imo the EvoX is better then 370z on and off the track. For off the track it has less blind spots then the Z, the clutch engagements are alot smoother, it has 4 doors and alot more space. |

Unless the EVO X is a world better than a the EVO IX, I am not sure if my datalogger agrees with you.
http://img807.imageshack.us/img807/5...voviii370z.jpg Red = EVO IV stock with Ferrodo pads & OE tires; Blue = 370z stock with pads & RE11. You are right I need an oil cooler to do track days, but my car is still cheaper than the EVO new vs new with the oil cooler. The Z's brakes are bigger than the EVO and it is lighter, how can an EVO stop better? I understand if you had the OEM tires since they are worse than the EVO stock. Your car doesn't handle better than a Viper (well assuming it has decent tires). The other driver was simply driving too slow. You really should be proud of yourself, not the car. The last GT-R i saw at the track only ran 1.5 sec slower than me, I know full well it wasn't the car. Have realistic expectations. Quote:

How much did you spend getting the Evo to 431 hp? For less than 1,000 bucks, you could have fixed your oil heating and braking issues with the Z.
Also, after reading the car saga, sounds like you don't know what you want in a vehicle. |
