Nissan is planning a wave of new models from its Nismo performance arm, including a range of extreme RS versions, Auto Express has learned.
First to arrive will be the UK-built Juke Nismo early next year. But that’s only the beginning according to Nissan’s executive vice president, product planning, Andy Palmer.
“Try to think of the Nismo brand as an affordable alternative to Mercedes’ AMG division,” Palmer exclusively told us. “Normal Nismo versions will get a power hike of around 15 per cent, but the focus will be more on distinctive styling with the red highlights. We’ll also tune the suspension and steering, so customers can get more out of the power they have.”
The Juke Nismo follows this formula with its striking bodykit, 18-inch wheels and red wing mirrors. Power has yet to be confirmed, but going by Palmer’s tip-off, we can expect the 187bhp 1.6 DiG-T engine to be tuned to around 215bhp.
Next in line for the Nismo treatment is the electric Leaf – which Palmer confirmed would make production. The Leaf Nismo Concept, seen at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, previewed how that car could look, using blue instead of red accents. Expect the production version to offer around 125bhp and 320Nm of torque.
Also due in late 2013 are hot Nismo versions of the 370Z – which is already sold in the US – and GT-R.
A range of Nismo RS models will be aimed at those who crave even more extreme performance. “The RS cars will be much more track-focused. You’ve seen the Juke R, so maybe that would be a good place to start,” Palmer said.
While Nissan will offer a very limited number of GT-R-powered Juke Rs for a six-figure sum, a mainstream Juke Nismo RS is more likely to be lighter and get a highly tuned 1.6-litre turbo with 270bhp. This should ensure sports car-rivalling performance.
Palmer also hinted that the GT-R and 370Z would get the RS treatment, but we’d have to wait until the next-generation 370Z appears in 2014 for that.

a little background on the "RS" moniker for those that didnt follow it with the Z33... back in 2007 NISMO debuted a RS version of the Z that featured a 3.8 liter version of the VQ engine aswell as a competition version dubbed the RS-C so there is some precident for a possible resurgence of this name for the Z and even GTR line.. if a new actual "RS " Z arrives this would probably be different than the current NISMO version in the aspect that it would be more than an aesthetic difference with minor performance tweaks..but dont expect it to be cheap

the 380 RS 350z was limited to just 300 cars and i think listed for almost 70K so roughly twice the price of a regular Z the competition version was well over 200K

as for the GTR....toward the end of the life cycle of the R34 as most know was the famous Z tune aswell ans NISMO has tested the waters even with the R35 in the clubsport (which was a test bed for the SpecV) and even a RC concept.

Looks like more hype to boost sales!

Can't wait to see what they come up with!

I hope it's more like the 350's RS, not just aesthetic tweaks. Car bling won't sell well for buyers who want a sports car, and Nissan needs a higher level to keep the Z competitive.

Yuck.. more ricer mods. I wish they just included the engine power hike

I'm glad they have not given up.

kenchan 08-12-2012 04:24 PM

i thought someone already had a RS 370Z.... ive seen picts... lol

Redglare 08-12-2012 04:32 PM

they need to hurry up and bump the VQ37 output to 360 or above on base Z's, koreans running around with 350hp

anthonyy 08-12-2012 05:02 PM

I think this is only for the Juke... but if it becomes available for the Z, I'm trading in.

hmmmmmmm....next gen?

NYBladeZ 08-12-2012 11:31 PM

I have a feeling that the word "hybrid" will somehow be associated with the next gen z.

that's a NISMO 370z RC (race car). turn key race car and Doran racing bought it, they use it for continental (grand-am) challenge.

i hope it's more 380RS and less nismo 370z. in other words, i hope it's substantially more power, substantially less weight and substantially more awesome

Shamu 08-14-2012 08:13 AM

I think I have some shots of the RS. Lol!
