Should I sell my Z?
I have a 2011 370z (certified) with touring sport and nav. 6 speed with 16k miles. Carmax just offered me 30k. Should I take this? Looking at the cars for sale section it seems that these take forever to sell and at values lower than this... Also I'm wondering if I do hold on should I expect my value to drop significantly next year (>5k dollars, with about 6k more miles)?

I'd say w/ the 2013s on their way 30k might be good since you already got 16k miles on yours. WHat you looking to get btw?

I'm looking at moving to a e90 335i. I live in the city so I can't get the most out of sports car. Plus 400hp/400 tq with tune plus meth is freaking awesome...

Lets start some trouble. You better do your research on these guys running just a tune with all that power because it come with a price. Those single and twin turbo BMW's are very unreliable when modded. |

Who said anything about blown motors? Just to rattle off a few issues I have read about and heard from owners themselves are, Blown Turbos or turbos failing prematurely, injector issues, and then as you mentioned the Fuel pump issues. |

I can say when changing out my buddies intercooler there was a lot of oil in the stock intercooler and catch can. So you know what that means. He has 33K miles on it. |

<- Puts down the haterade. Yeah, anyway, that seems like a fair offer to me. |
Also doesn't BMW keep a watchful eye on any mods you do to the car?
|
Im actually kinda surprised carfax offered so much makes me wonder what they would offer for my 09 with 32k miles. I imagine yours is mint no scratches or anything?

get an alpine white E92
|

for me, until my kids are out of highschool im going to stay away from buying anther 2 seater as i only have limited time to drive. but once they're in college... let the fun begin again. :p i like the exclusivity of 2 seaters. |
I'd stay away from a 335i. That car is one of the most unreliable car I've owned. I would stick to all motor if it comes to BMW...

My local dealer offered me 30k for my '10 Base plus touring with 9,000 miles, sport package wheels and spoiler, and that was without negotiating on my part. That's why I am surprised at the prices of used Zs on the forums, I used to assume those prices were what I should expect before I got the dealer's quote.

I wanted to sell/trade my car, I took it to a small dealer here at home and all they did was look at my car and look up the value through NADA and offered me what the website said which was 26,xxx

Mine is an 11 touring/sport with 13k mil and I would sell it in a heartbeat for 30.
If you definitely have it set in your mind that you want another car I would go for it before the prices start going down. |
When I traded mine in on the GT500, I got 23500 for my pw touring auto (mint) that had 34k miles on it. 30k is a decent trade-in. To be honest, I was surprised I got that much, I was expecting 20 to 21k at most.
I tried to sell for around 25k with no luck but then again, I only had it for sale for a short amount of time since I had to move on the GT500 quickly. |
If thats what carmax is offering for cash, not against a trade in then that is very good. If they just inflated the price of whatever you were looking to buy from them to compensate then not so good.
I have been a die hard BMW fan my whole driving life (Im almost 40) I have had a E30, E36, E46 and in fact still have my old E36 that I modified and drive hard daily with just under 400,000 kms on the clock. BUT... I personally know a BMW top mechanic of 30 years, very good family friend plus I am good friends with 2 competing independent shops one specilizing in Dinan upgrades and the other just standard BMW and Mercedes maintenance and a coworker has a 2009 335. All 4 people steered me away from the latest 3 series line up from BMW (latest I could afford which would have been a 2-3 year old 335), and they make all their money from modifying and servicing BMW's, they dont touch Jap cars. They said only purchase if I am getting factory certified warranty with it, otherwise be prepared to pay big $$$. The co-worker recently had his turbos replaced for a cost of $8000.00 and his high pressure fuel pump fails on a regular basis. I have also seen nearly new 3 series in the various shops for engine sludge issues. Im not trying to make you not get a 335 as I still have love in my heart for BMW but if you buy a 335 without warranty or plan to mod it you will need lots of cash to keep it running after that. P.S. Thought I should add that my E36 has only been in the shop 2 times in the last 6 years, I do 100% of all service and maintenace other then what I need a lift for. |
Just to update the thread, I sold the car for 30k.
Seeing this made me pull the trigger. 2011 Nissan 370Z Touring in Columbus, OH- 8317452 at carmax.com |
30K isn't a bad price IF you don't want the car anymore. Do you not want the Z?
30K isn't a steal so you won't make money selling it and buying another car imo. If you want to get an idea of what your car will be worth next year add your annual mileage and make your car an '10 and check the value. Basic Rule: Cars are not investments that you normally make money on. So unless your lucky any trade or sale will result in a net loss. |
