Live in NH but buying in NY

I live in NH, but i am purchasing a vehicle in NY, do i have to pay sales tax that NY has ? or can i have it registered here in NH and only pay normal fees

You pay taxes based on registration location, but u pay dealer fees that vary per state. Are you getting a 12 or 13?

You will also most likely have to drive around on a temp NY plate for a couple weeks while you wait on your registration and plates to be transferred to the new vehicle. I bought my Z in connecticut and it took forever for them to transfer.

Is a tricky situation, for example in VA you have 60 days once you are in the state to register your car and get a drivers license from VA.

So unless your are Mlitary I guess you will have to go with NY to eliminate any future pain with the Cops and/or insurance.

Just and FYI NYS only allows the dealer to charge 75 in documentation fees so don't let them swindle you.

$75?

Here in VA are dealer charging up to $500, at least $250.

ask NH DMV see if they have temp plate or so call transport plate, I live in ME and bought my 2010 in MA, got a one time transport plate from MA-> ME and then register in ME

These things vary. The best thing to do is call or visit your local DMV or DPS.

Most states have a reciprocal agreement where you are allowed to drive it out of state and taxes collected in the state you reside in. If NY tries to charge you sales tax, have it shipped. That would be considered interstate commerce and not subject to sales tax.

I wouldn't put it past NY to charge tax. In the 5 boroughs you pay city, and state tax before getting hit by the feds. And if you live in a neighboring state and work in NY. They don't omit at least city tax. Then you pay taxes in the state you live. (Nj,ct,pa). NY digs in your pockets like no other state.
