Audi is AWD? Z will not win in a standing 1/4.

That said, I have no clue if you or your buddy have any experience which will make a huge difference. On a track with twisties it would be much closer - I'd give it to the Z but again I think it comes down to driver. I've beat mustangs and corvettes in a POS 240sx and miata on the track and autocross easily.

I agree with others, you should do an autoX race, and if you guys are really good friends, you should have an honor system and both set lap times on an autoX race in both cars (meaning you'll each drive each other's cars).
And just tell him 1/4 mile times are BS anyways with true sports cars!

I don't know and maybe it's me but IMO, who cares if his Audi is faster. It may be but I don't think that makes it a better car overall. Unless you're one of the more "privileged" Z owners, are you willing to take a chance breaking something on your $35K Z for bragging rights? Your 'friend" is trying to lure you into this competetion because he has to justify spending $60K on his Audi. For a car that price, it should be faster than your Z. If it was me, I would just tell him "you're probably right" and leave it at that. I get passed by a lot of cars I know are faster than my 370Z but my Z will always be #1 with me and that's all that matters. It has nothing to prove!

Also the Audi is on the bottom of the list ,next to Dodge for terrible quality and reliability..Nissan is mid pack..

And as usual.Mercedes and BMW are near the bottom of the list in reliability.

I have only been beat by a BMW, a 911, and a Benz S class, so they are very fast and corner well.

But for the money, the Z Car is a great car..

I agree here. I don't think we are comparing apples to apples. I can go grab a porsche or other 50k+ ride and spank the Audi all day long. AWD is going to be really hard to beat in a straight line race. Then again, this is like you racing a VW golf. If his mentality is drive what you bring and not a drivers race, then you may not win. AWD vs RWD is pretty tough to win against, but hey, you never know. Just go for it and realize his car is going to depreciate a lot more than yours and in the end, is 1 second really worth another 30k in the 1/4 mile? Not to me brother.:tup:
If he wins, don't forget that its about enjoying the race together. If its about who can spend the most $ to get the fastest car, then thats not racing, that spending cash on an exotice and challenging lesser cars. No sport in that. The Audi S5 is an awesome car. If he wins, consider that you both have to have a second run but you must drive each others car? That migh help him see the light.

Quick, cut his brake lines when he's not looking, and even though he'll beat you in the drag race, you'll be the only one driving away as his crumpled car lays smoldering off the side of the road trapping him inside. Then tell everyone that you won. Profit.

I think the only way you could win in a 1/4 race would be if you had good tires, a perfect launch, and faster reaction time. Best chance would be at a track or autocross event. Driver skill would take it on the track, and I'd think the Z would be better at auto-x.

I really don't think the AWD will be that much of an adavantage in this scenario. The Audi will have a better launch, but that advantage will be meaningless 5' down the strip. Don't forget that pro's are getting those results you see in magazines after multiple runs. This is going to be a close race and your chances of winning will come down to the driver. This is of course as long as he stays stock.

There's a lot of pu$$y shyt on here on why racing isn't important. I don't agree with any of it. Racing is a sport and sports cars are built to be able to run in that sport. The Audi though.. is a wannabe's ride in general. A 60k car owner challenging a 35k car owner is pu$$y. In the general law of things, the Z should be bringing challenges to the higher up as us being the underdog. I'm pretty sure audi isn't going to 911 guy and asking for a race cuz b1tches always want to race sure things. But in all due honesty. The Z is NOT a sure thing to beat on that audi.
It is a drivers race. But he shouldn't even be worthy of your rubber. Not cuz racing is dumb or unnecessary. But because he's a germaphile douche expecting a sure thing. That's why I say... don't race him unless you are sure you can dust him.
Being sure doesn't mean you need more power. Though it would help. It means you need to race him on your terms in your grounds. A road course you are confident in, make sure you can shift perfectly, and just be ready NOT to lose. There's a lot of cars you can lose to on a track with respect. But. No germaphile deserves victory on a track. Those fools are looking for the easy way out on a purchase. And they see you as inferior.
Truth is... german cars have a lot of track weaknesses that can be easily exposed on a roadcourse if you are the proper opponent. You can give it to him with no gel. But u gotta be ready to take this germaclown seriously and hurt him on the track. Do him in IF u gonna race him, bruh.
