Good Deal on 2010 370z?

Hey guys, I've been in the market for a 350/370z for a few months now and have been taking my time trying to find the right one. There is a local 370z 2010 base WITH sport package Platinum graphite with 25,000 miles on it at a dealer. I went and test drove it (love it), it was listed for 28,900, and the dealer said he could do 27,300 with 2.99 interest WAC. I think I can get it down lower, but do you think this is a decent deal? Just for reference, NADA is 31,000, and edmunds TMV is 26,000. Car is in excellent condition. Clean carfax but has had three owners. What do you think?! Jump on this or keep shopping?

sounds like a slut. skip.

MattP725 07-02-2012 10:34 AM

Not a fan of the 3 owner thing... did you research who the owners were? Sometimes the dealers register them as demos... 3 individual people is sort of odd for a 2.5 year old car.

Monetarily that doesn't sound like a bad deal or an exceedingly great deal either. Pretty middle of the road at this point.

If I'm not mistaken NADA doesn't really detail the options to come up with the value which means you are going to be lumped in with cars that have more options (Nismo/touring) which might show an inflated price.

MMC Racing 07-02-2012 10:36 AM

Talk them down more and throw an extended warranty on it to hedge against the 3 owner worry.

PapoZalsa 07-02-2012 10:40 AM

Should go with the TMV. But 3 owners? See if the car was in the same state, city or county during that period.

TerribleONE 07-02-2012 10:43 AM

I paid 25k for my 10 with 11.5k miles and an extended warranty.. private party though

MarkGideon 07-02-2012 10:45 AM

I was going through the same thing recently in my search. Even if the price was good, I would not give a second look to one with three owners. Something has to be up. Just because the Carfax is clean does not mean it has not been in a minor accident or had some sort of other issues that caused previous owners to unload it.

While I prefer to buy someone's garage queen (and i did), three owners would not bother me on a car like this if all else checked out. lots of peeps buy sporty cars then decide to switch gears,

another kid
bought a boat and need a truck to tow
want a V8
rough ride
wont fit 2x golf clubs

lots of reasons people move on. Oh, and my car was two owner and pretty damn cherry

off topic but what kind of boat did you pick up?

gy954 07-02-2012 12:32 PM

Three Kids?

Three owners in two years is odd. Possibly bought by people who could not afford the car, so drove the blazes out of it while they could. You ought to have the car looked at by a knowledgeable shop. The money spent there (what, $50 maybe?) is cheap piece of mind, lemme tell ya.

As others posted, talk the seller down a bit more (maybe offer $24K, expect to pay $25,000?) and get a good extended waranty. About that, do your research...some "warranties" don't cover much at all, especially if they can claim that a prior owner raced the car and therefore invalidated the warranty!

If the dealer won't budge, it wasn't meant to be. Good luck.

steveg78 07-02-2012 12:42 PM

I think that price is very high. If I'm not mistaken, I think I paid a hair over 27,500 for my 2009 brand new when I purchased it in March of 2010. Yeah It's a 2009 but it's no different than a 2010 considering everything. I'd entertain a low mileage 2009 if you're looking for a deal. You can find plenty of 09s with equal or less mileage.

Seems a little high to me especially for a base model even with sport package. I'm not a big fan of it having 2 previous owners either. I think you could do better. My fiancee would always give me the best advice when I was shopping for mine. "IF NOT THIS ONE, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER". How true! I got my dream 370Z at a price that met MY demands. Tell them the price is too high and walk out. There's an excellent chance that they'll call you back. And if they don't, it wasn't met to be! Hang in there and don't settle!

my 11th boat:tup:

I've had tooooo many but usually one at a time. Latest boat is a 2011 Yamaha AR240, good all around recreational boat. excels at almost nothing but pretty darn good at a lot of things.

I've had sailing cats, fast cats, fast v bottoms, runabouts and inboard ski boats.

hijack over

Thanks for the advice, guys. Yeah, I think that unless he let it go for 25,000, it's not worth it. Three previous owners is alot and would hurt resale if I ever wanted to get rid of it. With the 2013's coming out, I could probably get into a nice 2012 for not much more than what they want for this one.

Sport pkg's are going to be in much higher demand overall so some dealers may sell a sport pkg Z above value right now do to it being summer. Most sports cars are bought between march and july. So basically its just a bad time to shop for a good used car deal on a sports car. As far as if you're getting a good deal or not? It would really depend on what the Z goes for in your area. Z cars are expensive in dallas vs NYC where you can get good deals on a Z.
I would put in your zip code in cars.com. add a radius of 250-500 miles and see what the Z generally goes for. Then use the price average of cars in your year and mileage to haggle. So if the average car posts for around $28k. You will offer 26.5 and not give them more than 27k.

Haggling based off 3 owners will be hard considering its easy to justify a sports car being owned this much. Too many people like driving a different sports car every year. Buying Newsed is a common way to go for people like this cuz they don't take the hardest hit on depreciation if they know how to haggle.

Tribalpinoy91 07-05-2012 08:38 AM

Paid 28k for mine with 2000miles.

Bagherra 07-05-2012 05:07 PM

not to thread jack, but a local dealer is offering a 2011 370 Touring 6M from $42K down to $35k

svt to 370z 07-05-2012 11:33 PM

keep looking I waited and it came. 09 with 358 miles from a crazy old guy 23g. no one will ever get a deal like this. someone was on my side!!!

gy954 07-06-2012 10:26 AM

WOW what a deal!

Man, you really made out! Is there a story behind that sale? Congratulations on a great buy. Uhh, you did have it looked at by a good mechanic, right?

No "R" title or Carfax issues? That's incredible and what I've always looked for---and never found in 40 years!

Ualwoody 07-07-2012 07:53 PM

i just paid $31,700 for a 2011 6M Touring... (new off the lot)

sonic370 07-07-2012 08:05 PM

just my 2 cents. do your homework get dealer to show you a up to date car fax.

i think it will show each owner and how many miles each owner put on the car.
you may find one or at least two hardly drove it at all. then have someone you trust go over the car. i think it's priced a tad to high see if you can get him down just a little more. but in my area it seems a clean used 370 is bring top dollar right now... good luck.............

owi1kenobi 07-07-2012 08:35 PM

Limited production and no rebates ever offered on the 370Z kept the resale value high.

Great price! But what is a dealer doing with a new 2011 when the 2013s are starting to arrive? How many miles did the car have on it? I ask because I bought a "new" Base+Sport six months ago and it had 430 miles on it. I think I got a pretty good deal ($33K) despite the mileage. No problems so far.

sfearl1 07-07-2012 08:39 PM

Paid 29k for my '10 with ~2k miles

Three owners in two years..?? Remember the old Steve Martin gag where he finds a house that other owners want to get rid of.. and it turns out its haunted...You never know..:)

Shotta 07-08-2012 11:59 AM

seems a little high for a base with sport pkg. If it was a touring model then maybe. The sport pkg is nice but the touring pkg is worth more at resale time.

Like everyone else said, check on the three owners, might have just been transfers from an actual owner, to auction, then to a dealer, not at all uncommon since almost all used cars come from auctions.

svt to 370z 07-08-2012 08:28 PM

Well besides the old man being crazy no catches at all. during the process he thought his inlaws stole the fobs, he later found them in his spice rack. shows you what I was dealing with. but I got a carfax on it. it was picked up from the dealer and titled that was it. The machanic said "what could go wrong this things brand new hasn't even been through a tank of gas yet" lol

That's good shyt. But there a lot of factors behind getting a new car (rebates, financing incentives) that low in price that would not reciprocate o used cars deals. Sometimes you're better off buying new.

RiCharlie 07-09-2012 09:15 AM

you guys ever read about the woman whose husband left her for another woman. He split the house and bank account with her but then contacted her and told her to sell his Porsche for "whatever she could" and send the money to him.

She put an ad in the newspaper and some kid saw it.. he called to make sure it was not a misprint and she explained it was not.. she sold the lucky kid a Porsche 911 nearly new for $500!!
The sale held up in a legal challenge in court and the guy got screwed and the kid got just about the best bargain ever on a new car!

PS However, the kid did have to pay sales tax on the estimated value of the car and not what he paid..still its one hell of a deal!

That's the kind of used car deal you ought to look out for! Comes along once in a century!

People joke that it's a common occurrence in upscale california neighborhoods. I really doubt it's really a joke, seeing as where it's coming from.

51 miles...

RiCharlie 07-09-2012 06:54 PM

Another stupid dealer put an ad in the paper selling a car for "5000 BANANAS" (Obviously this was some time ago and he thought he was being "hip") A woman showed up with 5000 bananas and tried to buy the car,..the dealer refused..she took him to court and won!

Another time a dealer had a promotion which took place at a high school basketball game..it was " Shoot a basket from half court and win a new car" He did not take out insurance on this event..TWO kids made a shot from half court!! and each won a car..

Footloose301 07-09-2012 07:47 PM

The three owner thing doesn't mean a whole lot. I'm actually the 3rd owner on my motorcycle at 7300 miles and I'm actually selling it to a local guy this saturday. That makes him the fourth and theres never been an issue with the bike.
