I like Vette's, but I don't think I could ever picture myself wanting to own one. I'd pick the Z over the C5 every time. I dunno, the Vette just isn't my style.....maybe if my hairline recedes.

a base C5 yes but a c5 Z06 no

I went from a 350z to a C6 to a 370z.
This is just me talking and I'm no expert, but I am a track junkie. The corvette is fast, however the C5 and 370 are close in HP, not in torque though. I run faster lap times in the 370 than I did in the C6, although my experience level is also up. When I first came back to the Z though, I was running the same lap times as C6. It all comes down to what you like. Both are extremely capable cars, I am just more comfortable with the feedback that my Z gives me as opposed to the C6. For my driving style, I'll take the Z any day. However, that being said, you can get a new C6 for around 42, and if you like the vette more after driving both, you can't go wrong. And, if you do get the vette, I can powdercoat your calipers ;) I'm corvette pilot on corvetteforum. |
I did the same route as Mike except I added a RX-8, E46 M3 in between.
I think a non Z06 C5 is a good comparison with the 370, but I still think the C5 might be slightly quicker. The C6 has too much power for the 370 to overcome |
quicker, yes, but more rewarding? I think it all comes down to driver preference.

Same here 350z to C6 to 350Z to 370Z |
Went from a 2004 C5 to the Z and haven't regretted the decision for a minute. Loved the Vette but after 5 years it just started feeling "big". Love the way the Z handles and honestly I think it's more fun in the twisties. Vette definitely had more power but that only goes so far on the street. Good luck whatever you decide.

A non Z06 C5 and a 370Z have similar performance numbers but the Vette will do it with torque and the Z with revs. If you need an automatic (Note to the M6 people: Not saying he should get an auto, just providing information) the Z has a superb 7 speed paddle-shifter-revmatching automatic, advantage Nissan. They each have their own feel. The Z is about a foot shorter which gives it a more compact feeling (which I like) and of course there's the huge price difference (new vs new). Spend some time in the Z before you decide. I love Vettes but new they cost a chunk (my personal baseline is the C6 Grand Sport, a neighbor took me for a ride in his Z06-super quick). The chassis and power upgrades in the C6 have knocked the C5 off my list of potential future cars.
I went to Cars and Coffee in Irvine, CA last Saturday, maybe 300 cars on display, perhaps two dozen were Vetts but mine was the only 370Z. If not seeing another car like yours three times a day is important to you the Z will definitely solve that problem for you. |
Never was a big Vette guy myself. Although I do see them on the road a lot in comparison to the Z. I can say that the Z is great handling car and very driver focused machine. The Vette may have more power but it all comes down to preference. Im not a big HP guy, but what really thrills me is handling and grip and the car sticking to the road, which I feel the Z does that for me. Drive both and decide from there.
