Surf or Swim Key?
For you guys that swim or surf, does Nissan give you a seperate swim key like Infiniti to enter the car? If not what do you guys do?
|
The flat key that fit into the plastic card? I remember getting one with my G35 Coupe, but not my G37 Coupe. Cool idea, but didn't know it was for that reason. The Z definitely does not come with one. Cant you just keep a key with your things or in a pack?
|
Couldn't you just remove the mech key from the remote and leave it in the glovebox and locking it and the car with the key?

What you're saying is, there is a key that comes in the remote which I can remove to lock and unlock the doors and this can go in the water? |

Thanks guys! Got a VW GTI as well, but can't do it. Nissan does come up with some pretty cool thinking.

That does pose a problem unless you find a way to block the signal to the ignition. If you wanted to get really fancy keep one FOB without a battery so that it only unlocks with the key and starts with the FOB in the ignition slot. You can then leave it in the car without the proximity sensor disabling the locks. |
Aluminum foil should do the trick. Maybe an Anti Static bag would work too, the thing the most PC parts come in.

Plastidip the whole key...

So the mech key is waterproof?

No our chips/signals are in the FOBs I believe... even if the key has a chip usually they are not powered and won't fail if submerged.

Just tested. Tin foil in the glove box works like a charm. Now to test the mech key's waterproof...ness? Waterprooficity? Waterprooficiency? (2 foot overhead! Woot!).

I ran my key through the wash and it still works
Alternatively, find a small waterproof bag to put it in. That's what I do with my camera/cell phone |
Did this when I went diving. Not a good idea because your key will rust. The disadvantage of push button start. I guess only option is to remove the battery and hide the key somewhere outside the car.
