Some general questions...
hey guys i am new to this forum, i tried looking around some answers to my questions but some questions are hard to find answers to. I am in the market looking to purchase the "new" 2012 370z. i just have some questions, if you guys can help me out that would be amazing.
I went to see the car and noticed that the trunk had limited space... i am wondering if that would be an issue for anyone who takes roads trips? I don't usually have a lot of stuff to put in my trunk on a daily basis. The car is also going to be my daily driver, and i live in Canada and our winters are sometimes bad. I am wondering if snow tires will actually make a difference or should i just keep my old car as a winter car? lastly is it worth it to get the 6ML or the 7AT if it is going to be driven all year road? Thanks guys for your help :-) :tiphat: |
Welcome, Roger.
You can fit two golf bags back there. I just drove my Z with a passenger and luggage for 12 hrs a few weeks ago. Some people have comfort issues with the seats, others don't. Go sit in one at a dealership and see what you think. Snow tires is a good question. Car comes with summer tires stock, and they suck in the cold. I love 6mt, but 7at is said to be just as good. |
They are a lot of people that use their Z as DD, in the Winter they get a set of snow tires with "chepo" rims. Must of them are happy driving in the snow...
Trunk space is limited (sport car) but much better than the 350Z, by yourself you can pack pretty well for a road trip. I would keep the old car for the Winter, but that is me. As far of 6MT or 7AT would be your choice. GL with the purchase. |
thanks guys ! really appreciate your input ! i did sit in one and i did not find any comfort issues with it. as for passengers... hmmm they don't like it... then... take a cab lol ! i hope my gf doesn't read this lmao!

Would there be any issues with using the 370z as a DD if your commute to work is only 5 miles? Or would the Z be better suited as a weekend car?

Post on a winter set: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...k-lm-60-a.html
summary: it's fine as a light snow daily driver. Also, get the 6MT with Sport Package. You'll get a VLSD which sort of helps in the snow, too. |
whats is VLSD? i don't mean to sound ignorant , just curious
|
oh what about the issue with over heating?? will it happen during a really hot day or just when the car is driven hard for a certain period?

Definitely not a huge cargo car, but I always seem to make it work. I can fit my roadbike in the back which is a HUGE plus for me. Also, just took a camping/roadtrip last weekend and everything for 2 people fit fine.
No comment on the Winter driving as I live in SF which is winterless. As for the 6MT... Are you a car enthusiast? Can you drive stick? If so there should be no question. Welcome to the club! |

yah i am leaning more and more towards the 6 MT i am just hesitant on driving stick in the winter, i don't want to sound like a poo face but i am scared shitless of driving stick in the winter, i have no idea why lol. i test drove one today and i just wanted to take it home! it just made a weird noise when going from 1st to 2nd.. i just chalked it up to being a demo car and some people just didn't know how to drive it properly and broke something.. i could be wrong. |
I would NOT drive it in the winter, period. The Z has real soft paint on the reg. Now put it in a winter mode setting with salt/rock covered roads and kiss your paint goodbye. Oh and not to mention how often you'll be washing your Z in the winter temps...

appreciate the heads up though, i wasn't aware of the paint issues. |

Richmond Hill Ontario, you should keep you beater, this year winter has been kind to all us of us...Ontario is known for some heavy winters, your car will not move..you can get by with snow tires with light snow but as you know in past years the east coast is known for some heavy snow periods |
I would keep the beater.
The non sport Z has all-seasons. (Should be noted) Vlsd, is viscious limited slip differential. (Not included in non-sport) Up north where rock salt is used your paint/clear will suffer greatly. The trunk can fit a lot of luggage if you are carrying soft bags and clothing only. Hard objects in the trunk inside your luggage will rob you of space. The automatic is just as fun as the manual. Just clutchless. If you don't have a left foot useage addiction. The auto should be just as fun. The auto is faster by up to a third of a second. Oil cooler should keep your car cool in hot days as long as you aren't tracking. Otherwise a second cooler may be necessary. |

You live in Victoria, that's not a winter LOL. I live on the east coast (Nova Scotia) and we usually get pretty harsh winters with respect to snowfall and cold temperatures. There is no way in hell I'd buy a Z if I had to drive it in winter down here. I'm going to use another front wheel drive vehicle with full on winter tires for the cold winter months. Basically the Z is a replacement for my motorcycles except I'll probably be able to get a bit more time with the car in the autumn and spring. I should take delivery of my new 2012 370Z next week. Right now with the employee pricing I received $8300 off the listed price so it made it very attractive to buy. I'll be paying mostly cash for mine and keeping the payments low for 24 months. The problem was, not many left in Canada to choose from.

P*ssys try living in Alaska :D

Keep your FWD car. |
I'll be driving through the winter in Michigan. Clear bra + snow tires. Everyone here needs to suck it up, it's not a Ferrari :) and rwd in snow isn't that bad with tires
|
I don't get the paint & salt argument... it's paint with clear coat. Salt isn't going to eat through that without a preexisting gouge that goes unnoticed for a while. I had a rock paint chip on my fender that only *just* started to get rusty 4 months after the winter was over - then I had it repainted like new. That's how resilient the paint and metal are.
For winter, because it's too cold to take out the hose, etc., you can take it to a touch less car wash and pay the extra $2 for undercarriage rinsing. |
