370z and odd noises.

So... I've owned my Z for almost a week now. The car was previously owned by a Nissan executive according to the report given to me by the dealer. 2011 sport with only 6k miles.

Anyways, the car makes this grinding/rock crunching noise when I set my foot on the clutch. Is this normal?

Also, how is everyone's second gear? It seems to be the roughest gear to pop into and it feels like it is grinding every once in awhile. Is this normal?

Some chatter is normal... But grinding/rock crunching?... idk about that... Maybe record so we can hear

Second gear can certainly be a little notchy.. but not to the point of grinding. I would bring that car to get looked at back where you got it before problems arise lol

I think I know what you mean, my car get that noise before I asked the dealer about this but they told me is normal as long as 3rd gear onwards don't get that sound then is normal. So far I drove my car for 2 yrs no more noise.
But for your safety u should go back to the dealer to ask about this.

If it is grinding with the clutch fully depressed then it is not normal and your gear syncros may be bad.

The noise happens when I'm at a complete stop and I set my foot on the clutch(depressing is slightly, but barely). Rock grinding kinda feeling/sound. It's not loud, but noticeable.

It's like a pulsing in your foot? If so the it is the clutch pressure plate. I think they have a bad batch of them. To me either they put them on with balancing marks off or the plate is not balanced properly. My pilot bearing is making noise and when I get on the car the motor and tranny shake all over the place. The pilot bearing is now making noise which was probably caused by the unbalanced situation. Probably something Nissan does not want to fix,but will if you complain enough.

It's so hard to describe in words the sounds that our cars produce. Lol, kind of fun to read though!

My clutch has a "pop" feel/sound (you can actually feel it on your foot) about half way into depressing it. Also, my 2nd gear is the "tougher" gear as well, but it doesn't grind etc.

OP should visit the dealership.

I've felt this on my car as well, thought I was imagining it. So it's nothing to worry about? :eekdance:

Yeah I have the same feeling in my clutch, I always just though it was the "chatter" that I was feeling. For me its just a little 2-3Hz tick I can feel and just barely hear.

Not normal, see dealer

kenchan 06-01-2012 11:03 AM

TO bearing failure maybe?

TypeOne 06-01-2012 02:23 PM

My car doesn't make any of those noises and I'm at 34k miles. Bring it back and have them check it.

spearfish25 06-01-2012 09:14 PM

I think he's poorly describing the throw out bearing noise.

homeryansta 06-03-2012 10:29 AM

I have a schedule with the dealer on Monday. But here i was playing with the clutch yesterday at a complete stop and the noise stops completely when i press in the clutch all the way.
