Visibility

So I am considering tinting my Z but I realize the car is already a pain in the *** to see anything but directly in front of you. How much worse does the visibility get with 35% or darker tints become. I need to know from experience because years ago I had a corvette with similar hatchback style and at night with 5% tints in back I backed right into a car and never even saw it. Mostly my fault for being careless. I know the car will look absolutely bad *** with tints and It will also draw even more attention from cops but im mostly concerned with being able to see. Any input from the forum?

I got my windows tinted almost immediately after purchase. Only visibility problems I have are the rear 3/4 views.

I would go with 35% all the way around if I were you, i'm perfectly happy with it. I have Ceramikool tint which competes with Llumar, couldn't be happier.:driving:

I don't know about the tinting, but Z cars have been hard to see out of in back for years..

I have owned a 300Zx and it was very hard to see out of the back at low speeds, but once you were going fast, you had no problems..Same with the 350Z that I had, and now the 370Z...They are hard to see out the back at low speeds..

But moving fast, they are easy to get used to..

But I have no tinting experience..

I went 15% on the rear and quarter windows -- no problem visibility-wise. Rear visibility already sucks without tint anyway.

kenchan 05-30-2012 01:21 PM

yah, get a rear view camera to aid. can't see squat down low behind the bumper anyway.

LakeShow 05-30-2012 01:25 PM

You eventually get used to the visibility. The only problem might be at first is your blind spots in the rear qtr panel area when driving and maybe parking the car and determining how much space is behind you but nowadays most Z's have a backup cam. There are cars with far worse visibility like the Camaro. Just takes getting used to, not the worst out there.

I have 35%.

As everyone is saying it's not the windows that are hard to see out, it's the hatch pillars and rear 1/4.

But then again, I'm talking 35% tints not 5%.

MattP725 05-30-2012 01:55 PM

35%=no problem.

Cmike2780 05-30-2012 02:35 PM

Doesn't really effect the blind spots, but 35% isn't really that dark. It's hardly noticeable. I'd love to have mine tinted, but it gets really annoying getting pulled over. I've seen a few times, usually in the summer months, where they set up checkpoints just for this on Long Island. Not worth the headache IMO.

x2, 30%

LakeShow 05-30-2012 03:14 PM

35% is perfect.

Turbo11 05-30-2012 11:42 PM

I have 20% all the way around, and to be honest when I am backing up in an area without great lighting (such as someones driveway at night) i can not see AT ALL through the rear hatch. The backup lights on the car are not bright enough to see through that dark of tint. However I just roll down the windows and can then see fine obviously out of the side mirrors.

buddyZ 05-30-2012 11:43 PM

whats the lightest tint? 35%?

forza370z 05-31-2012 12:59 AM

^^ The lightest tint would be putting on clear vinyl overlays... JK... I think 50% is the lightest tint you can get.

As for OP, 35% tint would be fine. You can even go for 30% which is perfect IMO. 5% would be too much and you won't see a thing at night when light condition is poor.

Corona370z 05-31-2012 03:49 AM

IMO this car is meant to be driven forward...This is coming from someone with no tint.

Amj2020 05-31-2012 10:55 AM

sadly even with the touring and sport packages I still dont have the backup camera because it didnt come with the homelink mirror. Guess I will have to take a survey behind me before I back out of anywhere...gonna probably go 35%

Bingo..Even back to the 300ZX, when you got into it, you said, wow I cannot see very well out back.

But once you are on the road and driving, between the rear view mirror, and the two side mirrors, no problem..

Same with the 350Z and the 370Z.. Just watch it backing up, and then you are good to go...

:iagree:

No issues here.

neko 05-31-2012 01:17 PM

I got 30's all around and visability is the same as without it. Blind spots are crazy on this car with or without tint.

chknhawk 06-10-2012 07:11 AM

5% and love it!!!

It keeps the interior cool ... it is dark as hell at night and very hard to see anything outside. Backup camera is a must.

sonic370 06-10-2012 08:38 PM

tint it you won't regret it. i will admit though you gotta know how to use the mirrors on this car............... and even then it's sometimes a crap shoot...

yesterday somehow i had a ford 150 parked on each side of me...
talk about backing up while blind....

Jack370Z 06-12-2012 09:30 AM

The way I understand it the lower the number (i.e. 5% equals 5% of the available light allowed thru the tint) the darker the tint. Is that correct?
