Service Engine Soon Issues?

My Z has 1800 miles and the Service engine light is illuminating. I have checked the gas cap and gone several more trips but its still on... Anyone have any suggestions or is a trip to the service dept in order? Thanks!

I have same problem and it's only illuminating when the engine isn't running.
Once i press the iginition button, the engine service soon sign is disappar like a miracle.
I've already asked same issue on this forum and every single members claimed that engine service soon light is pretty normal status.
Anyway, I've booked on next moday at nissan dealership, in order to check up everything for make sure everything is working alright, so i can tell you what's the truth by next week! Sound's good eh?:excited:

Your car illuminates a lot of lights before you start it up. That is normal. Now if you get the light while it is running you have an issue. You have a warranty so let the dealer find out.

Hmm, I dunno about the Z's but I remember my friends car at around 2000 miles the cars service engine light would turn on when the car is not running and then when the car was turned on then the service light would blink and turn off. then at atound 3000 miles the cars service light would stay on no matter what. She got an oil change and then they reset the light. Another 2000 miles later the light started to do the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's just a light to remind you of an oil change soon.

If you ever had an old mid 90's honda it did the same thing. you reset it manually by sticking your key in a hole near the main required light.

take off the negative battery wire. wait a few min.. put it back on.....

and if u have problums with your window after that. put windows all way down and then pull back switch to auto and hold them till window is all the way up. and after window is up. how for abou 10 more seconds... that should do it..... if not , check owner manual

This only happens when you have the ignition in the ON position without actually firing up the motor, right? This is what you wrote in the other thread:

This is completely normal. It is SUPPOSED to work like that! If you don't believe me, try any other car you have access to. Just turn the key to the ON position with out actually firing up the engine, and you will see that all the lights in the instrument cluster light up.

You should really consider putting the glue away.

it always turns on at start up and then off......you know why??

it's too show you that the light still works, like a light test.....if you start the car and the light never pops up....you got a faulty light

start the car and check, if you don't beleive me.....i'll do it on my 89 Pontiac & the G37 to show you all the lights are suppose to flash at start up.

if it stays on, or pops up while driving, go to the dealer, warranty covers for it...these lights don't stay on for no reason...a computer code has to be checked.......disconnecting the battery will do nothing for you.....wasting time.

Tauruszguy, have you checked to see if it's a maintenance alert? If you hit the little button to the top left of the fuel gauge cluster, you can scroll to the Alerts section. It may tell you what the SES light is for.

nogoodname 06-14-2009 04:48 PM

i get the alerts on the screen and i get a letter in the mail to do my oil changes/servicing...lol

30K km service came but i'm at 20K....lol

If the "Service Engine Soon" light is still on while driving after checking the gas cap is tight, do take your car to the dealer for them to check.
This happened with my car after only 800 miles. They traced the problem back to some leaky seal near the gas tank. They had to order the part and when they replaced it, turned out some cannister next to it was faulty as well. Again they said that part needed to be ordered, that it'll take 3,4 days.
I told them that its a waste of my time to keep coming back. So one of the Service guy suggested swapping the faulty part with one of the unsold 370Z on the lot.
No problem with the light reappearing since.

2500 miles on my 09 Z and my Service Engine Light just came on today. Gas cap is tight, bringing it in tomorrow... :shakes head:

LUVZTTZ 06-23-2009 02:03 PM

1735 miles for me. Gas cap is tight. Bringing it in on Friday. I'm praying they don't screw me and "trace" it back to the Stillen CBE.
