Weird noise, anyone have similar experience?

I've had my z for over 2 years and 20k miles. I have stock cats but berks cbe.

I know what the sound of a screw in a tire sounds like. I know how the brakes can make a clicking sound if there's rust from moisture.

I left work, no noise while rolling through the parking lot. Once I got onto the road I heard a noise that is hard to describe. It sounded like a metallic sound, maybe the sound of something dragging, maybe something in my exhaust, or maybe something rolling in the barrels of my wheel. I think the speed of the noise increased as I drove faster. I believe the noise did stop but started up again as I drove. At one point I thought I heard the sound of gas coming from my cats. Once I got on the highway the sound disappeared.

When I got home I did a visual to see if my exhaust was loose or anything in the tires, and rotors.

So anyone have a similar experience or know what happened?

Berk cats have been well known to be junk and blow up. Parts could have broken off inside.

he said he has stock cats and berk cbe.

I don't remember the setup of the Berk from pics but check the heat shield near the cans in the back...I had a similar issue when I had the invidia installed and the bolts were just hitting up on the heat shield...made a sound like change dangling around in a metallic can or something...comes and goes with expansion of metals due to heat and highways speeds/noise

Oh no, another incident involving Berks!

 This is a sign to stay the F away from Berk.

I don't see why people are slamming Berk already? I have the CBE on my car and it's been nothing but wonderful. Perfect fitment, no issues at all for me... He hasn't even said he's verified it's even a problem with the Berk?

lol @ blows up. :icon17:

My Berk CBE is perfect still -- I have about 24,000 miles on it.

I haven't heard the noise since that one time. I'm going to put it on jack stands and take a look. If I find anything I will let everyone know.

Until this morning I'd never thought about bashing Berk's.

Since I have another brand, it must be time to bash your brand. :bowrofl:

What would make a HFC or CBE explode or blow up (short of explosives) anyway?

I probably am totally wrong, but do your brakes have a wear indicator? Many times it sounds like metallic scrapping/scratching.

yep - i thought brake noise based on the description.

I took a look underneath and didn't see anything. I don't think it's the brakes since they have a lot of life left and it only made the noise that one time. I'm thinking a pebble was stuck to the barrel of a wheel, then as I slowed down it shot out of my wheel and rolled toward the front of the z making the hissing sound. I think the berks cbe is fine, but their Hfc is something I wouldn't trust using.
