Install bullet-resistant windows next time.

What you are openly telling him to do is commit insurance fraud which in itself is a crime. Poor judgement and bad advice.

If you always use velcro, then your telling the truth, plain and simple.

They got his Identity... i think that is worse...

That really sucks to hear. So bad that they got all your wallet's contents. Stories like this make me super paranoid about ever leaving anything in the car. Nothing beyond a change of clothes in the trunk for me ever. I hope it works out for you.

I would advise you get life lock for a minimum of one year if not longer to watch your credit activity, its not just some credit report if anyone even yourself applies for something they find out about it and let you know.

Doesnt matter if they got just one card or the whole stack, active or not. Your information is off to the highest bidder.

A) you are assuming that the thief is part of a identity theft ring and B) They can't do much without your social security number which hopefully wasn't in his wallet.

Cards do not contain any sensitive info about the owner (outside of the obvious things like name and visa number).

Most smash and grab thieves are not sophisticated enough or even brave enough to go through all that anyhow.

Do you know how easy it is to take one item of identity and create a full profile?

How are you going to say what I am assuming?

You can do a whole lot with out a SSN

They are brave enough to break your window? thats pretty brave.

...All they have to do is pass the information along, they dont have to do much with it they already have his physical location, and the ability to do what they want with the address, and name, which you could get a SSN out of.

I've seen it happen. Just because someone does a "smash and grab" doesn't mean they dont know how to commit a larger form of crime, this was a crime of opportunity, the "dumb criminals" were "smart" enough to watch and wait in some form or another and not get caught.

Regardless, it is smart to watch your a** if you want to pick it apart pm me.

If ur from NY brutha... u should know better than this. NJ is number one for auto theft and NY is #2 by a very small margin. Your interior better look...
1. Stock
2. Black with the legal tint.
3. Only blast ur music on highways and make sure u not gettin followed.
4: last but not least. Don't leave items in car when parked.

Unless you live in the few burby areas of the 5 boroughs that you can actually garage your car cuz the houses have an attached one? You can't leave stuff in it. Especially if its a case of any kind. It won't last 20 minutes.

There's no such thing as a good area in nyc. It doesn't matter how rich you are or how much more police you think you're getting due to the financial status of the area you're in.. If you're in the area of the 5 boroughs, within 5 blocks, there's a hood and within 2 blocks there's a thug all the.time, waiting for the next careless unguarded person to make a mistake.

That's NYC. Guard yaself n ya personals. It sucks to have to live that way in NY. But just make it routine and it will begin to feel normal.

Yu make me neva want to go there unknown. :( That sucks. Oh well, I'll just do like the locals...take a cab!

Why would he get lifelock (With monthly fees) when he can just freeze all three of his accounts (One time fee) for $30 or less and it will prevent anyone from getting credit in his name. Go to all three major credit bureas web sites and you can do this online.

Life lock was an example, its 360* coverage, and if they miss something you get a million cash to boot. They have a very good system. Not one company wants to give away 1 million.

Just saying.

All i was trying to do was give the OP the best chance to prevent anything else unwanted happening, it is up to him now.

Anywhere you are, you have to be careful..

I have always lived in the nicer areas...Gated communities, Nicer towns. But these are the exact places that the low life scum target..

They aren't going to target the people that live where they live..There is nothing to gain..

They drive to our areas looking for the nicer Cars, nicer Homes because that is where the money is..

So we are never truly "safe".

Took the words right out of my mouth. People who think they live in a "nice" part of town think they are exempt from bad things happening to them. It's the other way around my friend... unfortunately.
