Forbes List Fastest Cars for under 50 Grand

#8 2012 Nissan NISMO 370Z - Althea Chang - Forbes

For what it's worth the 370 which is what 5 years old now
still looks great compared to most of those others............

b1adesofcha0s 05-08-2012 08:26 PM

They just based it on power to weight ratio. That list is pretty useless, but I'm surprised the Corvette wasn't on there.

Red__Zed 05-08-2012 08:27 PM

They rank the genesis ahead of the z :|

UNKNOWN_370 05-08-2012 08:28 PM

Not worth much considering they showed the Specs of a genesis sedan Rspec being faster than our cars. Then the photo showed the gencoupe. You can't get a gencoupe in V8 so its highly misleading.

The base vette is now @ 50k. So I guess they wanted cars that msrp under.

I didn't know the new Genesis was coming with 429 HP. I think they used the HP from the V8 sedan and the curb weight of the coupe :roflpuke2:

I didn't read these comments and went straight to the article. Wow, what a misleading pictorial with fake stats. Imagine all the clueless people that will believe this to be true because it's from the Forbes website.

anybody who relies on Forbes has bigger issues than their car choice

:icon18: I was like hmmmmmm when I saw that the Genesis had 429hp in that article. I figured the Boss 302 & GT500 would led the pack.

kenchan 05-08-2012 10:43 PM

You see I knew something was wrong with that list. :stirthepot:

brucelidat 05-08-2012 11:05 PM

I just did the math with the v8 sedan's weight and they have the power to weight ratio correct. They also have the price right, so only the picture is wrong. Still pure numbers don't tell the whole story, they forget to mention it's a big boat of a car that won't handle twisties for squat.

buddyZ 05-08-2012 11:20 PM

Boss is the best, but ugly as hell. I just never liked Mustangs besides foxbody kinda, challenger is just way to bulky but monster looking.

Am I the only one who doesnt like the looks of the Nismo? reminds me of some fast and furious type ish, but dam it probably drives pretty good but worse than a Genesis???

brucelidat 05-08-2012 11:26 PM

I also like the stock styling better than the Nismo, and this list is just Hp and weight numbers, no actual times or tests so it's pretty worthless.

ZMan8 05-08-2012 11:32 PM

this list is pointless

NYBladeZ 05-08-2012 11:47 PM

Good luck finding a GT500 or Boss Mustang for less than $50g's. Seems to me its all American cars because of their high horsepower figures. Factors such as torque and traction have no place on this list. Btw, the Genesis is not faster than the Z, sure on paper and bench racing it sounds nice but its not built well enough to out run the Z.

ya thats a joke they wrote that. if i could get a Boss for 41,000 would i really get a Z for 35K? no.. Boss is more like 55K if not more around here

It has to be a friggin error. I mean, its the only sedan in a world of coupes. At least the wrting in the mag (V8/429hp) proves its the sedan. But hey guys. Its Forbes, Not R&T, sooo a grain of salt. They needa stick with what trump is doing with his money this month and leave cars alone.
:ugh2::ughdance:

Mt Tam I am 05-09-2012 12:39 AM

By being on this list, Maybe they can sell more Z's.

/\ is that really true tho? (honest ?), assuming we're talking about the genesis R spec v8 sedan, I don't expect taht it will outhandle a sports car, but isn't it a pretty decently handling car?

brucelidat 05-09-2012 12:56 AM

Haha, I really don't know, but I figure it's a luxury sedan and not designed to handle like a sports car. It may handle alright, I just think this article is really useless.

I agree that article is crap for sure.

I kinda dig the rspec sedan honestly. I have a soft spot for high hp sedans tho. I really need to research it more, being that it's marketed with the "r spec" badge, I would "think" that it has upgraded suspension, brakes, lsd etc so it might actually be pretty decent when the road curves.

brucelidat 05-09-2012 01:14 AM

I didn't even know there was an r-spec. I didn't think they would have a sporty version of the Genesis sedan since they have the Genesis coupe which is supposed to be sporty.

FL 4Motion 05-09-2012 01:22 AM

hmmm, so upon further review, I suppose all I can say is the r spec sedan isn't terrible. But def not great, or good imo for that matter. Knowing Hyundai tho, just liek the current gen genesis coupe, I fully expect the next generation sedan to be a winner since it takes a couple generations to get it right and hyundai seems serious about making fun to drive competitively priced cars.

sonic370 05-09-2012 07:11 AM

i never thought the article would cause such a xhit strom.........

if you really wanted to stir it up how about one with only cars between
say 30,000 and say 45,000. which would be low to high end for a new 370.
if my math is right that throws out the two mustangs in that article right off..

apples to apples as such.

Still leaves the 5.0.

RCZ 05-09-2012 08:25 AM

that was by far the stupidest list I've ever seen.

Lug 05-09-2012 10:29 AM

I've seen several people get the Boss for right at MSRP on a Mustang forum. Finding a GT500 under $50K? not likely.

:iagree: With the new gt500 coming out, the prices for the '12 will drop a good bit.

Nikkolai 05-09-2012 11:19 AM

I got mine new at MSRP. At the time, 2012 GT500 was marked up to 54k. With that logic, technically Boss is number 1 on that list now :tiphat::roflpuke2:

One thing's for sure, it doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as my Nismo did.

that article is fluff. its just filler for the rest of the Forbes mag. For what its worth, I did not read the article, I just looked at the pics.

Base 2012 Vette - $49600, not on the list.
Challenger on the list twice? Why weren't both Z models on the list?
Chrysler 300???? seriously, not even 300C or 300C SRT8?
Power to weight ratio: How about a Miata, or MazdaSpeed3?

OKay, I read the article. I was better off looking at the pics.
