Piece of Rubber
When I drove away this morning, wife found a piece of black rubber with a white smudge on it like a dab of paint and about 2x2 inches square, neatly cut/punched, and the back is white sticky tape resembling duct tape adhesive. Any idea what this might have fallen from? Looks like high-grade, neoprene type rubber but solid, not foamed.

Well the good news is that your car is lighter now.

Could it be one of the infamous spacer things they leave in the springs during shipment of the car?

Picture might help.

Sorry I don't have the answer, but you are not alone. Two other people have reported that issue as well in the last few months. This post shows a picture just like yours and also references another post about the same subject. Good luck.

That's quite awkward.

I heard without that piece the engine oil will overheat, steering lock will fail, rotors will warp, hatch won't open on first press, synrcos will grind(luckily you have an auto) and then all the oil will leak causing a massive consumption problem that will destroy the engine.
I wouldn't worry too much though, these are common problems with the Z Just kiddingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg ggggggggg Sort of  |

That black square with the white spot is precisely what MY black square looked like. So what is it--one of those spring space things mentioned above. If so, are there others that need to be removed? Sorta tough crawling under a car that low. Or do they just fall out automatically and I can ignore?
