Factory homelink mirror question

I purchased my z with the factory installed homelink mirror with back up cam. I had a question about the homelink buttons. Should the buttons work while the car is off? I noticed that I had to turn the igntion to on in order for the buttons to work, while in other cars the buttons worked even with the car off. Is this normal?

I know what you mean. Not every car will be the same. As long as your buttons work when you push it, then everything is great.

The buttons work only with the car switched on. When the car is off, the buttons don't do anything

Huh? My regular homelink (i.e. with no back-up cam) works even when the ignition is off!

Mine with camera only works with ignition on. PITA!

My garage button works when the car is off.

I have a 2012 also and my homelink buttons only work when the car is on. I find it irritating sometimes since ill pull into the garage.......turn the car off and think to myself "dammit......i didn't close the garage." So i hit the switch on the way in but its annoying in my own stupid way lol.

Was this a factory install or did you install it yourself? And does your mirror have the backup cam as well?

Anyone have a copy of the factory install manual for the back up mirror?

Here you go, scroll down to Galforces 2nd posting of the manual, post #28. 1st copy wasn't right. http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...amera-s-2.html

Glad to know about the power thing, my regular home link works on or off. I have pretty much scrpped the idea of getting it as I have grown acustomed to the car without it.

Thanks

My homelink is screwy. I can only use it on one car. If I program the Z, the Ridgeline won't work. If I program the Ridgeline, the Z won't work. I've spent hours trying to figure it out. I think it's just a cheap *** opener. But I'm building a new garage and putting in a Liftmaster 3800 in about 2 weeks and I can run it off my iphone if needed.

I wonder if it is a learn button issue from the sending unit in your garage door? If it's that type of unit maybe you need to press the garage opener's 'learn' button and then do both homelink units at the same time.

I have a '12 Touring and the Homelink that came with the car works with the ignition off.

I open and close the garage all the time w/o turing on the car.
