How come My Z doesn't have the button to make it shift smoother?

I forgot what it called but its a button that makes your Z smooth

Like if I were driving 3rd Gear switch to 2nd, It suppose to make it smooth.

The button suppose to located next to yield signal but mine is blank.

does it comes only sports package?? mine is 2011 btw

optiontrader 04-19-2012 02:07 AM

Synchro-Rev?

Yes, that's only included with the Sports Package.

Yes, people should know exactly how a car works down to the engineering level to be able to enjoy it.

Cause that's what I said? OP is wondering why his car has a blank switch that is part of a major option package let alone on feature this is only and ever been available on his car. If he would have spent 5 minutes reading one of the 50 billion articles on this car he would be surprised what he can learn.

Wrong, people should make highly uninformed decisions when spending $40,000.

My only requirements purchasing this car were the MT + Synchro Rev Match. Now that we've owned it for a year, I'm happier that I have the sport rims and brakes (rear LSD is a plus but not really a game changer in everyday driving). SRM is a novelty at this point - something that's cool to show off to friends. My wife never uses it (her DD), and I only use it occasionally in traffic (or the very rare downshift from 5th to 1st on a sharp turn off the highway - I've never attempted heel-toe into first in the Z).

The SRM is a great way to learn how the engine wants you to shift. With a little bit of practice and patience, though, it should not be difficult to rev match nearly as good as SRM does (not heel-toe - that takes much more than just rev-match practice). I've found that easily distracted drivers are generally the worst offenders of MTs as they don't bother to focus on the relationship of speed to rpm to gear selection. If you know what the engine wants and when it wants it, all you need is a little bit of practice to get the feel of it and build some muscle memory. OP, if you don't have SRM, go test drive a Z that has it and pay close attention to these relationships as you traverse the gears. Then go practice those maneuvers in your car. :tiphat:

My first MT (only manual exposure before this was riding mowers) was a 1994 Explorer Sport that I had to drive around the neighborhood where I purchased it for over an hour before I was comfortable driving it home across town. SRM would have been a life saver!

red6spd 04-19-2012 09:05 AM

5th to 1st downshift for a turn!!!!! Because race car?

Because I have SRM :icon17: and at this one particular turn, there is nowhere to slow down unless you brake in the highway lane (risking a rear end by some idiot not paying attention) or since the road veers off the highway before making about 120 degree turn you have a little bit of room to brake hard before throwing it around the corner. I've done it a handful of times and had a blast every time - closest I can come to pushing this car on public roads.

oh ya... ibtl

just rev match the old fashioned way. hit the brake with your right foot and use the side of your right foot to blip the throttle, then engage. you will need to practice but if you can't do this, dont even bother buying a MT car.

Haha me too. Can't believe anybody is taking this seriously.

mhcoss 04-19-2012 03:42 PM

Haha

ShinyBlueZ 04-19-2012 03:49 PM

Serious inquiry though.. do you guys actually keep your synchrorev on? I've had mine turned off most of the time since I got my car. It's cool and all but kinda bugs me whenever I clutch in for neutral to stop for any lights/stop signs it revs. Feels almost like I'm abusing the box when I'm stuck in stop-and-go traffic.

The odd time I actually decide to take some corners Paul Walker style I just heel-toe myself (I'm professional like that). :driving:

There's a thread somewhere in this forum talking about your inquiry, look it up.

I don't have SRM in my car cos I didn't take the Sports-Package.

I am more old-school, if I want rev-match, I heel-toe, it is the art of driving MT.

Google 'Heel and toe' driving. It's a more involving way to drive a manual transmission, and essential if you want to be smooth on a track.

ayrton88 04-19-2012 04:16 PM

I've only had my Z for a little over a week and quit using the syncrorev real quick. Takes all the fun out of downshifting a manual. It might be better at the track, but I'm so used to blipping the throttle with the side of my foot, I found the computer and I were fighting each other. Another reason I would never want a paddle shifter. Someone told me that Porsche will soon not offer a real manual...sad. Come to think of it, I'm not sure Ferrari offers a stick anymore.

Cmike2780 04-19-2012 04:30 PM

I just leave it in one gear the whole time.

^THIS^ 100%

I can drive the hell outta MT but manual mode on AT is like walking and chewing bubble gum at the same time - I wind up with my foot stuck to my elbow. :icon14:
