Ordered a pearl white 370z

My wife and I ordered a pearl white 370z touring coupe with sport package last week. May be 2-3 months before we take delivery. Dealer isn't even sure at this point if it would be a 2012 or 2013. Yesterday the dealer called because they took in a new pearl white nismo on dealer trade. They called us to come in and look at it. It's a beautiful car. The car will be my wife's daily driver for 8months of the year when there is no snow. I'll also drive it frequently. I know all the differences between the two cars. We drove a couple of regular z's, but did not drive a nismo. Sales manager prefers no test drives for the nismo. He said we could drive it if it was the last hurdle to us puchasing it. I think in the long run she would be happier with the touring/sport due to the heated leather power seats, upgraded radio, homelink, bluetooth, etc... She kind of wants the nismo because it is available right now. I'm open to opinions of people who have owned or driven both.

I would tell the dealer to back off and let you test drive. You have already shown comminment by ordering a Z. You are not looking to joyride the nismo....i hate sales people lol

Short term happiness ( 2 or 3 months) but long term dissatisfaction...that is the way i look at it..

Yep, get the one you really want, not the one you want right now.

$.02

A lot of talk about this now, it would be a 13. That sales manager is ignorant, it's not like you ordered a Sentra, you ordered a Z. You need to drive the Nismo it's not Touring model for sure. If you're looking for all the fancy options on the touring model, the Nismo probably isn't for you because they're a little less frills kinda car. If you do like the Nismo, have them discount the hell out of it because you can get 0% on new 12's.

This no test drive crap happens all the time. I've been in the same situation. One dealer pulled there only Z out the showroom for me and the other dealer who had 3-4 Z's outside didn't let me drive one. Idk what to tell you.

I understand not wanting people to just go for a joyride. I wouldn't like to think people were joyriding around in my Nismo. But there are two things that make that dealership full of crap, those being 1) the car is used and 2) they already ordered a Z. I would tell them thanks for your time we'll find another dealer, besides they should know what year they can order for you.

Thanks for the replies so far. I agree with the long term satisfaction over short term happiness which is why we ordered as opposed to getting what was available. Don't give the sales manager too much grief, when I showed up it was raining/snowing and they had just put it in the showroom and were still wiping it off. I didn't ask to drive it, because I don't plan on getting it. The wife doesn't need a track car, she will appreciate the features of the touring model. It was kind of tempting though. If you don't want a pearl white nismo, don't go look at one. Pictures and video don't do it justice!

The sales manager's statement about test drives of the nismo seemed to be as much for the sales staff as me because we were all gathered around admiring the car. The sales staff seemed more upset than me because they all wanted to drive it too. I am curious how it drives, but if I was going to purchase it I wouldn't want a car that numerous people drove it like they stole it. I was hoping to hear a bunch of statements that it rides rough because of the stiffer suspension or the added horsepower is not noticeable to make me feel better about passing on it.

I for one think it is a smoother ride than my base sport package was. I notice better throttle response not so much the added horsepower.

When I was in the market for a car I went to Hyndai and tested the Genesis...the guy let me take it overnight...Good thing he did,..I noticed things I did not like at all that I dont think I would have picked up in a short drive..
When you think about it,. buying something for thousands of dollars based on a half hour test drive is really taking a risk..but I can also understand the dealers "joy riders" problem.
