AAM short tail users check in

How log have you been running yours ? and what RPM do you get the worst harmonic. Some people say they get quieter, I dont understand how that can happen.

I love mine. Had them for about 5k miles. Worst drone is around 2k rpm just cruising

edub370 03-27-2012 09:10 PM

had mine on for 15 min with tp's.... then took them off and sold them so my ears wouldn't bleed. there is drone at all rpm's and SCREAMED at wot.

mind u, i'm 23 and pretty obnoxious and it was way to loud for me. whoever said it gets quieter was full of it. its not like a muffler where the packing can settle/change over time to produce a different tone. its a pipe... people who say it gets quieter have just gotten used to it

864Zbeast 03-27-2012 09:14 PM

I'm 20 and my dad is 53 and loves it. It has a v8 sound at idle. The only reason it's loud I cabin is because our z doesn't have a trunk, it's a hatch. But to each their own.

edub370 03-27-2012 09:15 PM

now again, mine was with tp's, so i probably had a few more decibles than the average bear

864Zbeast 03-27-2012 09:19 PM

Yeah very true. I'm scared to get tp's. I want HFCs And intake

bjblackout 03-27-2012 09:55 PM

I have them and love them. They are loud and definitely do not get quieter. Its a straight thru pipe!!

I have mine for about a month and I love them!!

The sound is amazing!!

U will love them!

LMBmikeZ 04-05-2012 05:05 AM

I love the sound I have been hearing with them and will be installing mine ASAP once car is out of storage in approx 2 weeks. I already have the parts. To combat the cabin noise you could always do some dynomat or some other sound barrier in the trunk ara to help quite it down. I might end up doing this.

I also have been reading it helps keep the little annoying wheel well noises out when little stuff bounces around up in there. I always check for damage and there's none but some days those sounds like its hurting it, so I'd rather just not hear it. Lol

Evil sports - are you not liking them now? Or why are you asking if they get quieter? :iagree: though I don't see how a straight pipe setup could get quieter.....

I've had mine since November and love them. IMO the worst it gets is right around 4k, below or above it sounds fine.

Evil Sports 04-06-2012 08:35 AM

I get a harmonic at about 2800 that will create a buzz in my dash somewhere when its cold out. I wonder if that harmonic is such that it will cause things to loosen up sooner than stock.

Skeeterbop 04-06-2012 10:16 AM

IMO, i doubt it will cause anything to loosen up any quicker. If everything was tightened properly at assembly and you haven't touched it; it shouldn't come loose any quicker. Again that is just my opinion.

I agree. I have a different brand of 'short tail', but they are the same design as the AAM's. (I bought them here off the forum -- don't know the brand, but they look commercial quality, not 'home-made')

Except for the muffler deletes, I have a stock 370z exhaust (non-NISMO), including stock cats. I love the sound, but I would not want it *any* louder, so I'd never add test pipes.

I also have the K&N Typhoon intakes -- don't know if they have much effect on the muffler, but I really like the combo of the K&N intakes and the muffler deletes. To me, it *feels* stronger than stock, but I've never dyno'ed it, so I have no facts to back up that feeling.

Cheers,
Kent
