Hey Elric, you can't compare the price/rate between US and Canada, everything in the State is cheaper than Canada, that's why there're so many Canadian go to shop in the State.

We pay higher price for car, fuel, insurance, parts, labor, almost all the consumer goods are more expensive in Canada than in US.

If you want to have the expense as low as US, sorry bud, unless you move to the State.

Regarding your insurance rate, first of all, how old are you?? No matter how clean your driving record is, your insurance rate is gonna be sky high if you are under 25.

When I was 19, I paid $8000 for an 4 years old Integra that worths less than $4000 and that was some 18 years ago.

"High Risk Pool", you heard about it, right??

Wait til you turn 25 and have a clean driving record, then you can enjoy a much lower rate.

Come to Ontario, I think the rate in here is even higher because we have a open market and they(insurance company) can set whatever the rate they want and the government won't do anything to regulate it, because higher premium=more taxes. :shakes head:

Thanks for bringing up this idea of being in the "high risk pool". That could really explain it. I drive very carefully and aviod doing stupid stuff. But being five years away from turning 25, I need to bear with it for now and build up my record overtime.

Wow, insane.

That's an insane amount of money. That's like if you had a DUI or something insane. Hope you can figure out a way to lower it.

Anyway, here is a thread that will give you a better idea of how much people are paying and how much it varies.

My insurance is about 4 grand also :(. I'm only 19 though, albeit without any tickets or accidents. I also have the good student discount and everything. They quoted me for about 2 for a Mustang though. I am not sure the reasoning behind the price difference.

TerribleONE 03-28-2012 02:49 PM

probably because the Z is only a 2 seater making it a "true sports car" in the insurance companies book even though the 5.0 could get you into even more trouble..

It is all about age..

Younger male drivers will race and drive faster on the streets...

Don't ask how I know this..But it is so true..

Experience means nothing at all..It is the instant willingness to race and go 100mph plus.. The insurance company knows this..You can talk about your racing experience, track time, blah, blah, blah..

I was young once and never , ever, drove slow..

Now at 52 with a 420HP pro touring Hot rod, i built it for track racing, and i will not race on the street because i own my Home, and have a large portfolio...I would not risk those just to beat someone at the stop light..They laugh and think they beat me...I didn't race..I won the game of life and live large.. i do not want to give it away in a lawsuit.

And then ther is the mortality factor...I have been near death, and i know that I could kill innocent people if i race.

When i was young, the cars on the freeway were my orange cones at the autocross.. In and out between them at 100mph plus, not any more..

So, it is age...first...then add in all the other stuff and you pay more than i pay for all three of my cars...two are high performance.

To the OP, dont feel so bad, i was paying $5300 a year but that was with 1 accident and 2 tickets and i was 23 at the time. My SRT-10 Ram was 2000 a year and now the EvoX is 2300 a year. No tickets, no accidents and im 25 now.

IDZRVIT 05-13-2012 08:20 PM

I pay just under $1000 full coverage. So it's comparable to what our friends to the south of us are paying.

MattP725 05-13-2012 08:30 PM

Insurance companies simply have some type of mathematical algorithm for assessing risk of loss. There is usually large variations between companies as they each weigh different risk factors differently. Try another company and you might find a shockingly large variation.

They also don't care about your "experience" over those in your same category. You are going to be pooled with 20-somethings that have never driven and the same ages with lots of road experience.

Shotta 05-13-2012 10:30 PM

I just bought my used Z recently and its costing me LESS per month to insure the 201 370z then it is to insure my 2008 Ford Escape or the 1996 BMW 328is.

Go figure!

But I'm 18, and when we got the Z, I'd only been driving 2 years. Plus, we are asian, and we all know the asian stereotype when it comes to driving XD The only thing I had going for me was a perfect record and a good student discount, no driving classes in high school.

And $1900/yr was ridiculous, and we were able to get it down to $1600 a year a few months ago.

The 370z definitely shouldn't be THAT high to insure. I don't think accident rates are as high as a lot of other sports cars in this range, since it's usually sold to more mature drivers. Maybe they feel like they could charge that much due to lack of competition. OR maybe they expect you to wreck in the cold snowy months?

How much coverage do you have though? That could make a huge difference.

Where did you get that demographic from?

According to our forum, 2/3 of all the Z drivers here are under 40 years old. I think you are confusing the Z with a vette?

Once you hit 25, you'd wonder why your bill is so low.

Unless you're like that one 19 year old kid who killed his passenger in an MR2...while racing against a pick up....on a long and straight street. Then you don't have to worry about insurance because you're now screwed.

btw, the passenger was his own sister.

disgusting, always the case though, the person that should have paid with their life lives. At least the mini van occupants didn't die. I don't know how I'd live with myself if I killed a sibling doing something just down right moronic like this.

DJ-of-E 05-14-2012 04:43 PM

It's stuff like that is the reason why it's really expensive buying insurance in California as a young kid. You don't hear it all the time, but I do pay attention to the local news and such news with age group appears more often publicly. (Maybe there's more in other age groups, but who knows).

When I was 18, I had a 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S. Car was valued $800. My insurance cost nearly $2400 a year on just liability.

It's simple, you haven't been driving long enough.
I insured mine for 2K but that is after a 40% discount for 4 plus years of safe driving. A further discount comes from driving for over 10 years. This is for 3 million in liabilty and full collision coverage.
Any accidents erases the 40% and the 4 years starts over. Had any of those?
You also get 1 free claim here. If you get in an own fault collision you can use your freebie and keep your 40% but if you get in another one you're screwed.

Usually people paying 4K for insurance have claims or too many tickets.
Tip: if you get in a small fender bender, pay out of pocket to fix the other car.
It's often cheaper than paying 40% more for your insurance.

Sounds to me like you're not coming clean on your driving record.

I think 4K is the "base" price for 370Z for full coverage and certain amount of deductible, disregarding your age and driving history, FROM ICBC. My quote is also around 4K (so is another new owner very different from me in terms of age and driving history), then there's a 40% discount and I still pay exactly $200 a month, That's ICBC in the great north.
Unlike the companies in the states, ICBC set the price mostly based on the risk factor of the car, instead of the driver (the latter was proposed only recently.) "Political Correctness" is a great deal in the culture here - you don't "discriminate" individuals. You get "discounts" for "points" you accumulated by clean driving records each year (i.e. the older you're without accident/tickets, the more point you got and thus better discounts). If you had enough points in the records, after you had an at-fault accident, your points dropped but would still at the max discount level. Otherwise you might get dropped to the lower discount level. There's no "1 free claim" in the policy; and another accident wouldn't erase all your points neither. Drive well next year and you'll get some points back and perhaps a 5% discount per one or two years. Don't ask me how I know all these stuffs.

robones 06-13-2012 10:19 AM

I am currently paying $107 a month in Miami, FL. Full coverage 100/50/30 i think. The driving "profile" used by All State is a single male 30 years old.

I recently got married and I just called my insurance company to update my "profile" to married status. Statisctically speaking, a married person has a less chance to get into an accident then a single person.

I am trying to get my coverage below $100.00 dollars. I am also adding my wife's car to my policy to get a multi car coverage discount as well. Maybe I get below $90.00 or $80.00 a month. LOL lets see.

Footloose301 06-15-2012 01:32 AM

I'm at $102 thru Progressive. 26 years old. Single. Renting. One "at fault" accident(total loss).

I had a used 2009 370Z(totalled now) which was $130/month
...then upgraded to a more expensive brand new 370Z and my insurance dropped to $98/month at the time. Slowly moved to $102 now 1.5 years later
