Ecu high frequency noise

Hey guys just took my z in to the shop today for the high pitched mosquito sound coming from the car, and for my door locks randomly locking and unlocking themselves in the middle of the night and while driving. The dealership ordered the part to fix the locks, but when I told them about the high pitched sound from the ECU he didn't believe me. I had him get in the car and turn it on to hear for himself. He heard it, then tried to blame it on my aftermarket cd player, saying it probably wasn't grounded properly. I pointed out that the Cd player was turned off, and that it had been doing it before the cd player was installed (it came in the car when I bought it used, but it wouldn't help to tell him that lol). He is saying that they will fix the locks first and see if that was the problem for the noise, and if not then I have to put a stock cd player in the car before they will do anything.

I'm not that great at dealing with these dealership guys. What are some of my options? I've done enough reading to know that the ECU is the problem. Is there any Nissan documentation talking about this? Something I can show them to prove my claim?

how about you send him a link of the HUGE thread we had here on high pitched whine? i think there was a TSB out for it too.

vividracing 03-15-2012 02:31 PM

Or how 'bout you tell him to read the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act? The burden of proof is on THEM, not you. Another option would be for him to learn how an automotive electrical system works, that way he can avoid saying foolish things.

I hate hearing stories like this. Google Magnusson-Moss so you can get an idea of what your rights are. As far as looking for proof to back up your claims, check this out:

Print some of those out or just ask him to go Google it next time you're in.

... Check what out? :) I don't see the link.

Had mine replaced, dealership tried to see what was causing the noise after i told them but they didnt know what or why it was making the noise. They called nissan and boom part ordered installed. None of this BS your dealership is putting your through, tell them to call nissan because it is a well known and documented issue.

Like Kenchan said there is a TSB out there somewhere

Spikuh 03-16-2012 09:29 AM

I recently had this done on my car a little under a month ago. My dealer gave me no problems at all with replacing this. Just mentioned what I had read and that the general consensus was to just go straight to Nissan about this. Whole thing took less than week (part had to ship, work took like 2 hours) and I was out the door.

My suggestion is to have them just call Nissan, they will confirm the ECU problems. There are multiple threads on the ECU whine around here if you dig them up. Not sure about the TSB kenchan mentioned, I have never seen one produced, just rumored about. May have just overlooked it during my searches though.

Also, some have had to swap ECU multiple times before they got one that would not whine. If I recall correctly, it supposedly had something to with differences between ones marked A and ones marked B. I think my replacement may be starting to whine again, so I may be in the same boat as others.

I have a loud buzzing coming from my throttle bodies when the car is off and ignition is on. It's so weird.

Just put an exhaust on and you'll be alright. Ever since I put mine on, I completely forgot we had this problem ;)

Weird... I can see the link but you guys can't? Here it is again:

Lol I'll be getting my headers and exhaust in mid-June! Can't wait!

VivId, thanks for the link, I think I've already read every single one of those threads lol, I did a lot of research the other day. I think you're right about the TSB, I can't find one. I searched google and also the TSB section of this forum and I can't find anything. The service guy said that they are gonna install my door lock actuators next week when they come in, and see if that solves the whining sound (facepalm). WHEN IT DOESN'T, I'll tell them to call Nissan and confirm the info. If they give me problems I'll email all this with a stern complaint to the GM and see what happens.

The TSB does exist. I printed out a year or two ago for my file for future use. Fortunately, I haven't had to use it.

just gonna add my 2 cents in here, but i had this exact problem going on about 6 months into owning my Z and finally had my passenger side door power window motor go out on me, long story short the dealer replaced the power window motor and i havent heard the whining noise since then even a month after the repair.
