370Z has an oiled filter from the factory?

Mine sure seemed to. A very light, clear oil. Weird. Cosworths have been in a while now. Like them.

Yes, there was a slight oil. When I swapped mine I laid the factory ones on the strut bar & it got oily.

Just wondering if mine somehow had gotten some contaminant on them. Wouldn't this tend to de-bunk the "K&N screwed my MAF" and all that? Why does Nissan do this? It is the first time I have seen this. Fear of them getting wet?

No. No one with a brain and a good understanding of how these things work has ever argued there is a problem with oiled filters...the problem lies with improper oiling.

I switched to K&Ns at about 3k miles and every few thousand miles I pull them out and check for leaves and paper and junk. I did find a small spot of oil in the bottom of the air filter compartment. I thought it was from the K&Ns but I guess it could have come from the stockers. (POST COUNT +1)
