Best time of year: Taking the Z out

Put the Z away around mid October because we had a weird snow storm (I think the only one of the winter) and with temp's supposed to be around 55/60 all next week, I think it is finally time to bring her back out.

It's quite funny to have all my co-workers and neighbors ask "So... taking the car out soon?". It is like the official sign of Spring for them or something.

5 long, long months. I need to start driving this beast more... 3 year anniversary on March 30th and only has 11k on it.

And to the winter ride: 2001 Jeep Cherokee... don't get me wrong... I love you. You always start when I need you and you have been a trusty steed.. but it's time for you to step aside and enjoy your old age, basking in the sun.

Here is to another great year! :driving:

I put the Z in October as well, then a few weeks later I was like F it, im just gonna drive it since mother nature seemed to be kind to New Englanders this winter.

KanataZ 03-09-2012 02:45 PM

I'm (Vermont) green with envy.

Winter is breaking here too but there is still some snow around and the roads are way too salty and covered with sand and gravel to take out the Z (or the bike) yet.

Maybe next week - warmer temps and road-cleaning rain is in the forecast.

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

nmjaxx9 03-09-2012 02:50 PM

Yesterday temps were up in the 60s it was such a beautiful day to drive the Z. :driving:

Plan is next week for me, winter tire law is up (15th) and should have some good days ahead!

Just want more rain between now and then to wash all the gravel away...plus Montreal is Pot Hole city...so will be mostly short drives or highway untill April when its more fixed

Took my car out earlier this week to go down to the local meet. Felt really nice! PWJDM V.2 knob was a pleasure to drive this as well.

Just called and put insurance back on the car. Purchased it the end of September, drove it for a month and then put in away... It will be nice to get it out, drive down the road with the top down again... I only had it for a month before I put it to bed, but loved every minute!! Can not wait for 80 degrees and sun this summer!!!:happydance:

Welcome back J.

Winter here in Minnesota has been rather tame this year. I had the opportunity to drive my Z in December and January. Seen 2 350z zooming about too. :)

edub370 03-09-2012 11:21 PM

in kc we had 23" of snow in one night last year.... this year... under 5" all year... yet mine has still just broken 20k....must come up with excuse for not driving it as much as i should have.... uhhhh... the sun was in my eyes???

My winter driver was 2001 Grand Cherokee also... until cooling system problems...head gasket...many other problems. Also the sadness every time I walked by my Z. NOW... I sold the Jeep and drove the Z all "winter" with snow tires and enjoy every day :)

Just pulled my Z out of storage. Even with winter tires, it feels like when I drove her off the lot the first day. Love her!

Z was out

of the barn today. 2 hrs plus. I dont know if anyone notices but the longer you drive the Z the better it feels. Tires break in. Engine warms up. Fluids heat up. Just feels good the longer you run. I lined the hatch area with a insulator and it helps to. Another note, the looks you get, that felt good again. And lastly, threw in $20 of gas and after paying and walking out the area where you pay . Looked up and man was she beautiful. It was dark and she reflected the red and yellow lights of the gas station against the shiny black finish.

3zworld 03-10-2012 08:58 PM

Wow...it's true then..almost all Z owners must experience that same common bliss every time they walk out and look at their car, cause I get that same feeling everytime, fall in love every single time, which tells me I made the correct choice 6 months ago..:)

We had the same here in Michigan, I was able to get out on my Honda CBR for the first time in January and February, that's pretty much unheard of here in Michigan. This might be the first time that I ride my motorcycle in every month of the year.

My winter ride (and Home Depot shuttle) is a 200 Ford Ranger.
Man, I've missed the Z.
Today is the day.

:iagree:

I was able to get mine out at least once a week. Never would have imagined the first winter with my Z to be like that. I was prepared for slow, painful torture.

But it makes me think we're all going to fry this summer...

That's one nice thing I like about the dump I live in, it's warm enough to drive sports cars year-round with the exception of a few weeks every other year.

Vaughanabe13 03-12-2012 04:30 PM

I just picked up my Z yesterday as well from storage. Is there anything I need to do now that I have the car out? I had the oil changed with synthetic right before storage so am I good or do I need to get it changed again? Anything else I should be doing to keep it properly maintained? I drove mine up til mid December so I don't have as many months in storage.

Also, seeing the Z again in the spring is the FREAKIN BEST thing ever. Driving it around town and getting used to all the rubber necking again is just great. Such a gorgeous car.

I came here with the exact same question. Is it best to baby the car for a while after it comes out of storage?

ZEDHEAD 03-13-2012 10:57 AM

It's time to take the cover off up in Canada, winter has been exceptionally warm with little snow. In fact, I had her out in January just for a day though before we were pounded by -49C (-56F).
