Did you add a Car Alarm to you Z???

I just bought my new 2012 370Z 2days ago and was told by my pops to think about putting in an Car Alarm system because i sometimes go to not so good towns . So my question is has anyone added an alarm to there car and if so what kind ? or should i be fine in that that area ?
i know theres no such thing as fine when it comes to car theft but is theft on these cars bad ? Cause i havent seen or heard of them being the target of being stolen like the good old Acura Integras back in the day and as my father is and older car guy i donno if hes just being paranoid cause its a small new sports car , i know better safe than sorry but Any info or opinions welcome thanks .

Mine came with one from the factory... don't they all?

flashburn 03-08-2012 05:41 AM

Your average car thief isn't going to be able to steal this car. Stealing stuff *in* your car, is another story. Of course with a smash and grab, an alarm can only do so much. Personally I never bothered getting an aftermarket alarm system.

Mine did - becasue I managed to set it off yesterday. At least the panic button. Nothing like getting in your car and another one of your keys hitting the button...

Nick911sc 03-08-2012 07:20 AM

They'll steal your rims way before the car

:iagree: change the lugs first.

edub370 03-08-2012 08:01 AM

ya i think this cars factory antitheft is a little above your average dumbass criminals head

Spikuh 03-08-2012 08:04 AM

Just the one that came from the factory.

Aizen Sosuke 03-08-2012 08:07 AM

Definetly add lock nuts to your wheels. I have 4 different keys, but I am a little crazy, you don't have to overdo it. Also a tilt sensor alarm would be a great addition. And never leave anything in the car that may produce a broken glass by a smash and grab thief.

How about not going into an area that is shady?

I have to. I live in a shady area. We have many old growth trees in my neighborhood. Should this make me worry about my cars?

I put in a Viper 5901. Couldn't be happier with it. It's nice to know when somebody backs into your car in a parking lot or smashes out a window. The factory alarm is not much of an alarm at all.

alcheng 03-08-2012 05:28 PM

(1)
If: They want some stuffs in your car
Then: They smash the window and take it

(2)
If: You have an alarm
Then: They disconnect it in 20 secs and steal it.

(3)
If: You have a sophisticate alarm
Then: They tow it

(4)
If: You have a sophisticate alarm and handbrake on
Then: They bring a flat-bed tow truck

(5)
If: You are completely freaked out right now
Then: Pray

(6)
If: You don't want to Pray
Then: Don't own a car

cheers

:tiphat:

Locking lugs can be taken off very easily without the key... if you're worried about the wheels, buy an alarm with a tilt sensor. I've taken off locking lugs after losing the key and it takes just seconds.

you can install an aftermarket tilt sensor relatively easily to the STOCK alarm.

as for locking lugs, checkout gorilla's spinning collar locks. they work like a charm!

Hawk6 03-08-2012 09:07 PM

I want my car to sound like R2D2 when the alarm goes off but I can't find anyone who can custom this... Anyone know how? Post it or pm me

RedNismoZ 03-08-2012 09:23 PM

Leave nothing in your car, easy.

also as it is with all 2way systems eveything cuts down on range.. window tint, block building, metal buildings, other cars etc... so a lot of systems will advertise 2miles or 1 mile of range.. what they fail to tell you is that is in a wide open field with nothing blocking the signal...

now if you paid the extra and got the smartstart system with your viper alarm then ur fine as long as you have cell service you will know whats going on.. but again try to get back to your car before there gone while ur in the mall.. doubt that u can make it in time...

Of course, but it's an extra step. Also the flashing blue light might deter some thieves, who knows. I don't have anything but a radar in my car for them to steal.

I concur that the Z is hard to steal. If it is, they're going to tow it. Turn your wheel in so they can't easily pull it out of the spot you're in.

BlackZeda 03-09-2012 08:19 AM

I am not sure if it really works or not, but I have been buying LoJack with my cars in the recent years. It does give me a discount on my insurance, so I guess it is at least worth that much.

Maybe it just gives me warm feelings imagining that someday some a$$hat will steal my car and either incinerate himself in a fiery wreck or being shot in his stupid face at the conclusion of a police chase...

elmo 03-09-2012 10:38 AM

Awesome Feed back i really appreciate the info from everyone. i think ill take all the advise and stay clear of the "shady areas" lol and save the money and not get an additional system and probably just get some new lug locks , the gorilla ones look legit ,as my boy said the same thing the ones from the factory are pretty essly taken off thatll make me sleep alil easier at night seeing how i just found out each wheel is about $1000 to replace ..

happytheman 03-09-2012 02:40 PM

eh...the sport rays are more like $800, but it's not something you want to have to dig deep for because of some a$$hat. :)

After having my stereo stolen this past week out of mine i will be doing the following. Instead of 20% tint on windows it will now be much darker and illegal.

I will be adding an additional alarm.

Try avoid parking the z anywhere in a city especially at night. Soon i will finally buy a 3-4k civic beater so this hopefully doesnt happen again.

I think someone followed my z home from shopping and later that night good ole smash n grab... ill never know. 2k is estimate from progressive and dec 10th is finish expected date. With a 500 deductible its certainly awesome they are replacing everything since i had my receipts when i purchased the stereo upgrades...

nowadays I don't think anyone thinks twice when they hear a car alarm. who the hell is gonna confront a thief and get stabbed or shot over your junk? Thiefs know this, and can take their good old time disabling your noisemaker. just my .02

:shakes head:

I had my stereo stolen in my high school parking lot like 10 years ago. I hate thieves. This makes my blood boil. On my car I wish they had smashed the window. The used something to rip the door handle off and they took everything. About $2k in equipment.

Spooler 11-27-2014 09:43 PM

Ever had a $1000 dollar amp stolen? That is the only thing they got. It sucks.

Dude you live in NJ............... I'd put an alarm on a pair of sneakers in NJ!!! I'm from Newark and know the scum that travel miles from home for a good steal so be very weary where ever you park your car at. It's not as bad as it use to be, but can still be costly.
