AAM or Topspeed?

Hey guys I can't make up my mind. I've got a stock exhaust on my Z right now, I only have the Stillen Gen 3s. My plan is to save up the money for the FI LTH + CBE. But I have three options right now and I can't decide which one to pick. I want to hear your opinions and reasons why :)
1. AAM short tails for $200/$250 - they sound amazing, lose a tad bit of torque (so I've heard)
2. Top speed CBE in the for sale section for $300+ shipping - more hp, not AS good of sound
3. Save the money towards a set of wheels to put the power to the ground - probably the responsible choice, but not the fun one.

GO!

What the Huck?! lol :bowrofl:

If i were you i'll take the AAM short tail hands down. I've been running the AAM + Stillen Gen 3 and believe me that combo sounds MONSTROUS! but i've sold of my AAMs and i regret doing that :shakes head:

And save up some cash and get a decent wheels after the exhaust

Huck 03-05-2012 04:33 PM

Thanks man :) I wish I just had like $60,000 to drop all at once then I would be happy lol. I don't want to go really extreme with her since she's my dd. I'm thinking CAI, LTH, CBE, pulleys, front lip, CF accents, and wheels. A good set of speakers inside and I'm done :)

I prefer the top speed sound over the AAM sound.. sooo. i say top speed.

Huck 03-05-2012 04:38 PM

Daisuke, I think it was your YouTube videos I was watching last night with the top speed exhaust :) did you ever get it dynoed? Any idea what the hp gains are on the top speed?

mmm, the Top Speed one does sound pretty good.....

Juruki 03-05-2012 05:16 PM

I heard AAM makes your ears bleed :P
i vote topspeed cuz i dont like overly loud exhausts that drone and make everything in the car vibrate

Huck 03-05-2012 05:34 PM

I drove behind a nismo yesterday for a good half hour, he had them on and it wasn't overly loud. When he would step on it yeah they were pretty ballsy, but at cruise speed you could barely hear them. We cruised between 70 and 85 mph and they weren't loud at all, just when you floor it.

Guess it all depends on what you are after, sound or HP. The short tails are about the sound in my opinion. Good luck whatever you choose!

Huck 03-05-2012 06:11 PM

That's the problem, I can't decide!!

I like the look of Top Speed better, at least they have the muffler and it looks pretty good mounted.

Vbp6US 03-05-2012 07:16 PM

Nice thread. No one seems to have concrete dyno numbers for the TopSpeed it seems. I wonder if the gains aren't anything to write home about?

Nick911sc 03-05-2012 07:22 PM

I personally wouldn't spend money on an exhaust system just to get a new system later. Either save for a full system or spend whatever you have budgeted now on a different mod of that price. That's just my opinion.

864Zbeast 03-05-2012 07:22 PM

I have aam and they sound Way better in person. I have YouTube vids. Name is "sap370z"

It does drone some but I get nothing but compliments and it sounds so mean for $360 new shipped. Good luck man!

alcheng 03-05-2012 07:27 PM

Dang, got to thanks Huck on this one, what he is looking at is exactly what I am thinking for my next mod....

I know that's what I should be doing, but I hate how quiet my car is. And hearing rob's AAM's for a half hour really made me want to do something inexpensive to keep me happy till I get the FI setup. Then I came across both the AAM's and the top speed. Idk what to do lol. Decisions are not my strong point.

IMO if you can't decide then you don't want either, yet. When you do you'll know without having to have others make the decision for you.

bjblackout 03-05-2012 08:19 PM

I have AAM and I love the sound!!

Lol I agree, and what I really want is the FI setup, but I don't have $2700 laying around right now and it will be a while before I do, so I want to do something cheap just to hold me over. But I suck at making decisions because they both seem about equal in pros and cons.

It works.

Not because it solves the problem . . . but because while the coin is in the air, You will get to know what your heart is really hoping for.

I say AAM... Love driving the car even more now :)

Huck 03-05-2012 11:45 PM

Haha I was wondering how long it would be before you chimed in Rob! Well we'll know in 5 days when the eBay auction for the AAM's is almost over. So far no bids...

songbong 05-11-2013 11:56 AM

370Zsteve 05-11-2013 12:27 PM

My AAM hi flow cats sound amazing! ijs....

snowhite370 05-11-2013 12:30 PM

Putting my AAM short tails on next week ;) can't wait!!!!

NOFATCHX 05-12-2013 12:12 AM

AAM short tails and test pipes. No online video will do this justice. Loud, rumble, backfire, still has that unique Z sound, sucha sick sexy sound. Definitely race car!

Yes it's loud, can be driven quiet but when you romp on it everyone from a mile around will here you!

JARblue 05-12-2013 07:27 AM

If you want inexpensive sound, then you only have one option:

You're welcome :tiphat:

NickTurnon 05-12-2013 10:42 AM

HUCK, AAM SHORT TAILS.

GO WATCH MY VIDEOS---

Actually, with test pipes its obnoxious. But with stock resonator it sounds good.

Huck 06-27-2013 12:30 PM

Haha I had totally forgotten about this thread. Now that I've been able to do a lot of research if I had to make my original decision I would go with the aam's, they sound awesome and the quality is pretty damn good. Plus Khoi at aam is a great guy do I would be very comfortable doing business with him. The Topspeed sounds nice but is somewhat cheap, quality is average.

Having said all this... I saved up the money and went with Fast intentions headers and exhaust with carbon fiber mufflers and an Uprev tune. I'm super happy that I went with this, it sounds absolutely wonderful and makes great power. The quality is superior to anything else in the market and Tony has given me better customer service than I have ever received in my entire life. Anyone looking for an exhaust, give him a call and see what you think afterwards. It's totally worth it to save the money, wait a little longer, and get something you will absolutely love for the rest of your life.
