I hope it is not the optional self-destruct mechanism. If not, I have no idea what is could be.

Maybe for some $$ the dealer can re-connect it or activate it

How do I know? Dealer asked If I wanted pay extra and of course I said NO so This is what I ripped out since its useless. Totally Non factory wiring I'm guessing the dealer does this to make extra $$ $250 NO Thanks

Did trips and OP get their car at the same dealer? :icon17:

TerribleONE 02-28-2012 10:59 PM

Not on mine either...

alcheng 02-28-2012 11:24 PM

If you pay the extra $250 or whatever the dealer ask, this thing work as a shock sensor.

If you don't pay the $250 or whatever the dealer ask, this thing works as the Steering Lock Failure Activator.

I'll have to check now...

I've changed my post on that to 'Steering Lock Failure Activator.

It's a joke on the Steering Lock, take it easy bud. :happydance:

I think it's a security device/component.

oh well duh! but i was asking what does it do? lol

Vbp6US 02-29-2012 01:30 AM

I went along with my dad to look at some new Toyotas three weeks ago. At the end of sale, when he was signing some final paperwork, they asked if he wanted this shock sensor alarm. He explained it as follows; some thieves walk around and tap on cars to see if they light up or chirp. If they don't, then the car becomes a potential target. He mixed some marketing in it to try to sell it but I looked at my dad and just shook my head. He declined.

I guess if it's the same device, think of it as an ultra sensitive "shock" sensor. Shock in reference to tapping, pounding, slamming, etc.

bigsix 02-29-2012 03:59 AM

Sometimes those shock sensors can be very sensitive; you don't even touch the car (but come near it) and it can go off

Gauge 02-29-2012 07:12 AM

The dealer never offered this to me...weird.

so what is the button suppose to do? when i press on it, nothing happens.

daisuke149 02-29-2012 08:20 AM

turn it off when the alarm is going off.

elmz 02-29-2012 10:42 AM

My dealer didn't offer this ither, but they did offer a proximity unlock option, and I declined. But I kinda wish I got it now.

I'm sure you can still get them. I don't think its a Nissan option. They probably had a deal worked out with a local shop that they were going to send me to.

thats because every dealer does something different for their own profit. these arent nissan options or items.

Basically sales guy goes to a dealer and says "

Hey, you should sell this alarm with each new car.. you can make 300$ per car profit"

dealer goes.. okay..

Lug 02-29-2012 11:33 AM

Depends. Are you an Enemy Of The State?

Gauge 02-29-2012 01:41 PM

Ahh good to know. Maybe I'll check about getting those proximity locks. Sounds like it could be a cool idea.
