Whats your relationship with your car?

Well, I figured I would see how other people react with their car.

I am the kind of person, that car comes first, really meticulous I even keep a vacuum in my car, and lint rollers.

After every couple washes I wax my car to make sure she's protected. I over see the whole car and inspect it haha! Have about 8 california dusters, and 2 of them in my car.

I keep my car clean...but not to the extent you do...i regularly wash and wax.
BUT..
I drive the crap outta my car...ever since i past 2000 miles, it was VDC off time! My VQ is no stranger to the redline. When i hit lonley twisties, i get after it, frankly i have gotten spoiled with the SRM. I do love heel toeing, but its not needed in with the SRM. Its perfect when your hammering through corners, and have no problems with it at all.

I definitely am not afraid to drive this car hard.

k20z3 05-30-2009 03:28 PM

Mine too, I don't drive mine though! I have 6,600 miles on my 2006
bought it with 4k in NOV

I obviously had a horrible relationship with my Yellow 370Z but I've have several "conversations" with my Blue one. I was even outside today with a measuring cup of water trying to clean the gunk out between my back window and the molding. I got it clean!

I remember saying when I first purchased my Yellow Z, "I don't deserve this car." I really believe it heard me say it. I've never once uttered those words with the Blue one....and never will!

I wash my car once a week, coming up on my first wax time, I am still looking and picking up little things that I keep needing to keep her clean between washes & waxes. I usually do a full walk around of the car before I get at any public place I park at just to make sure everything looks good while I was away.

NotmyGTR 05-30-2009 04:19 PM

Im a nut job I guess

Seven days in a week......wash at least 3 times a week. Days I dont wash, I keep a bottle of distilled water in my garage that is used to take off bug spots, bird disrespect, and such. Only waxed her once so far, but Ive only had her for about 3 and a half weeks.

Every wash means, every door jam/rubber gasket gets wiped down. Rear hatch gets raised and wiped. Hood lifted, wiped completely along with any water or dust spots throughout the engine bay. Yes, the license plate is removed so no dirt is safe hiding behind the plate. Plates get waxed when the car does as well.

For the weekend washes, the rims are removed and complete rim is cleaned, inside and outside, along with cleaning of the calipers and tire wells. Just to make sure I dont aid in the accumulation of dirt on the underside...........she stays parked in the garage on rainy days and I drive my other ride instead.

On the weekend wash, once drying is complete, I will apply the tire shine, and the car wont be moved for about 3 hours. Just to ensure the Black Magic is completely absorbed by the rubber and there will be no messy black spots on the side of the car when I do drive it later on. I even go so far as to wax the glass and rims to ensure dirt, dust, and bugs slide right off.

Ya, when winter hit with my celica I washed my car EVERY day! then it just ended up getting dirty on way back home! haha, so I washed my cars 5-6 per week eeek!

Relationship?
As mentioned in another thread: "I'm going to mount a "fleshlight" in it and give her a go."

When my Z gets uppity I give her a good slap, that usually straightens her out :p

You car-wash fanatics would hate me if you could see how this car gets treated appearance-wise :)

semtex 05-30-2009 06:21 PM

I only washed my 350 three times a year.

Musashi 05-30-2009 06:40 PM

My 370 gets a nice spray wash once a week but I use an extra $2.50 in quarters.

k20z3 05-30-2009 07:07 PM

wow, living large!

k20z3 05-30-2009 07:14 PM

however, using your fleshlight, most likely the exhaust temperatures may make it more than luke warm, I'm thinking it will turn to goo, but get it why the gettin's hot

nogoodname 05-30-2009 08:40 PM

so much washing....lol......that's overboard

frost 05-30-2009 08:58 PM

I go longer than I want to in between washings because I worry about swirl marks, even though I use all the microfiber ****.

arcticreaver 05-30-2009 09:24 PM

right now i'm going to wash the car probably 2 twice a month. i was washing once a week but it got too time consuming. but i'm going to use the quick detailer and california duster to keep the car looking like clean in between washes.

i will be waxing once a month and claying the car once a month.

Pushing_Tin 05-30-2009 10:20 PM

I have a 30 mile round trip commute (see bug thread) and live on a gravel driveway, so I end up washing every week or 10 days, and wax every 2-3 months. She is stored in the garage so she doesn't take as much sun/bird abuse that some other cars do.

In the winter time when it rains incessantly I only wash once a month or so.

k20z3 05-30-2009 11:21 PM

When its summer I just use california duster and detailer spray..unless it rains

frost 05-30-2009 11:22 PM

^ california dusters reduce my washing by like, half. Good call.

k20z3 05-30-2009 11:43 PM

Ya, with a good wax it has like a wax residue that you can see then just rub it in more :)

Whats your relationship with your car?

She's owned property, treated right and kept nice and clean, but sometimes she just needs a good spanking and to be driven' hard ;)

Now THAT is dedication! Or craziness! Joking, that's pretty amazing man!

My relationship with my car is purely sexual - I wouldn't want anyone to think I have feelings for it - it's only a car ffs.

Celinicus 05-31-2009 12:22 PM

I try and wash it twice a month. But that all depends on how disrespectful the birds want to be around my place. I'm thinking of mounting a wooden owl by my parking spot...

May I make a suggestion here. As a vary anal owner operator of a detail business, I would like to give some advise to those Z owners who want to keep their cars looking their best.

The best wash method is to use a two bucket wash system. One bucket for the soap and one for the rinse. Using a sheep skin wash mitt gently wash a small area at a time, then rinse mitt in rinse bucket before going into the soap bucket. This will greatly cut down on grit in your mitt which will marr your paint. Wash from the top down and have a separate mitt for the rims. I like to use separate buckets for the rims as well. I use a foam gun on my car as well as my customers cars. This sprays a soapy foam continuously onto the car between the mitt and the paint for the ultimate marr free wash. Also use a quick detail spray after each wash to replenish any wax or sealant loss. This also helps with water spotting. Just my .02.
