Post Mileage Before Your Clutch Gave Out From Normal Driving
 

I currently have about 300 miles on my 2012 manual with the sport package and I started noticing the fishy smell coming from the clutch, on various occassions. The clutch doesn't seem to slip at all, but you shouldn't be getting this clutch smell about a 100 miles or so.

Service manager says the smell is the catalytic converters breaking in, sounds like BS.

I called the nissan service department and they said that if the clutch fails at all, neither the clutch , pressure plate, flywheel or throughout bearing will be covered, under the factory waranty unless it can be proven that some defect caused the clutch to fail. Good news is that if the clutch does fail they only charge $500 for the labor to replace the parts.

It would be interesting for members to post the mileage at which their stock clutches failed and cost of replacing the units, and if their repairs were covered under the factory waranty.

Also if you went with stock or aftermarket hi performance replacement parts.

I'm at 18k with no slip... don't worry about the smell, it could be a number of things breaking in with only a few hundred miles.

The stock clutch will last damn near forever under normal driving. And by normal I mean, experienced driver normal.

my buddy got a new exhaust on his bike and it smelled terribly fishy for a few weeks, so that might just be it.

I've got 32,000 miles and still going. That's even with almost destroying it last summer. I screwed it up so bad that I couldn't start up from a dead stop without crow-hopping. Took a few weeks of careful driving to clean it up and get back to normal.

I don't know about Nissan 370z's clutch yet, but on my old and I mean old Ford Bronco II, the car has 140k miles and still have original clutch. I never dump the clutch on take off. Up to the time I sold the car, the clutch was top notch still.

Slight fishy smell when new is normal but if you get a good amt of smell you are slipping unknowingly.

This is normal. Just don't beat on it until it's broken in. Anything that gets hot can smell this way until whatever is on it burns off, from the clutch to the cats.

Idk about my Z yet but my G35 had to get a new one at 95k but then again That was my first stick I had, plus I got it used so that also could be why it only lasted up to 95k

I'll throw mine in the 'ring.

2001 WS6, LS6 clutch, replaced at around 80K miles because of T/O bearing. Clutch had plenty of life in it, still.

Sold at 149K with that clutch still in it and gripping fine.

2009 with almost 84k on the odo, original clutch and no slipping. guess syncro-rev has helped
