Leather vs. Cloth

Which lasts longer and retains appearance better?
Do base models get cloth on the areas where the touring trim gets fake suede?
Leather can get lava-hot in the summer and icy in the winter.
Which do you prefer?

Leather, by far.

Leather requires some maintenance with leather conditioner but if well kept it can last a very long time. My 8yr old G's leather looks almost like new.

My Z has cloth as I prefer cloth on sports cars.

The Touring inserts are alcantara, not fake suede. It's like sitting on velcro.

My previous car was an Infiniti G37S coupe. It's seats were full leather.

I much prefer the Z's seats. The G37's have a problem with the center part of the seat base leather stretching. No problem with the alcantara.

I think the hot cold thing a bit overblown with leather. It's never been a problem for me.

Now that you mention it, cloth probably is better in a sports car. Do the cloth seat 370z's include cloth on the door panels too or is it only on the touring?

Yeah, a little conditioner on the seats every few weeks, and they'll look good for years.

I have cloth on mine, but I plan to get the Clazzio seat cover soon. I have some on my Prius, they fit and look great. I am hoping for the same thing in the Z. I occasionally carry my dog, her hair just sticks to the cloth seats where the leather can hide most of it.

What do you use to help keep the leather looking good?

mantella87 02-05-2012 06:47 AM

My previous two cars were leather. My 370 is cloth. I like the look/feel of the cloth (especially when it's 100+ degrees out) and don't miss leather at all.

I have the touring seats right now, I think the balance of leather and alacantra is perfect. The stylish look of leather trim, and the better grip of the alacantra seating surfaces. Not a big fan of cloth seats myself.

gr8-wrx 02-05-2012 07:10 AM

Myself, I like cloth in sports cars. Leather for luxury.

bigsix 02-05-2012 07:18 AM

Personally, I enjoy taking care of leather: reconditioning seats, trim, etc.

Cloth seats can be more comfortable and feel nice.
