Need cheap tires

Any feedback on Nankang or sumitomo'S

6MT 02-01-2012 09:50 AM

Falken's are cheap.

Cristobal09 02-01-2012 09:58 AM

stay far away from Nankangs. I mean theyre alright if you dont do any spirited driving, but on these cars, dont get them. I had them on my old Lancer Ralliart and they were terrible. I do not have any experience with sumitomos.

Mt Tam I am 02-01-2012 10:25 AM

I just looked up Sumitomo's for the 19" sport package and could not find any.

ProfessorDave 02-01-2012 12:20 PM

I found the Hankooks to be pretty reasonable

TerribleONE 02-01-2012 12:29 PM

+1 for the hankooks.. Real great tire for the money

onzedge 02-01-2012 01:11 PM

Never skimp on tires. Never.

Lug 02-01-2012 02:29 PM

Put Sumitomo HTR III's on my 350Z and absolutely love them. Best bang for the buck tire out there.

tjlazer 02-01-2012 02:56 PM

I disagree. I have Nankang NS-II's on my 400HP Z32 300ZX TT and they are great. On my second set now...... Great tire for the price! Especially if you are on a tight budget. But if you can afford better def go that route... I'd def get them if they came in Nismo sizes. But am planning on getting some RE11's for my Z34 instead.

Falken Ziex 912 are not bad for the price. Can be had for under 500 for 4 tires if you find the right deal. Been running them for a while. Decent daily driver tire and softer ride quality than the yokohama stocks from the factory. Not the best grip though. Remember you get what you pay for. In my situation I don't track or drift or go to the drag strip, so just tooling around town they work just fine for the price.

370zproject 02-01-2012 03:55 PM

i used falken 452's did alright im tring hankook next

Colesy 02-01-2012 06:57 PM

I had Nankang's on an old Monaro, I had two delaminate on me, so I said I would never use them again. I have since installed on my "Z" Falken 452's on my 18 inch wheels, upgrading to 19's so have had Hankook's for around six months, and connot fault either of the two makes as an alternative.

RedNismoZ 02-01-2012 06:59 PM

Hankook v12's are cheap and good, I recommend these.

90 ST 02-01-2012 07:05 PM

i've had great luck with the V12's also, and they are avaliable in multipul sizes if you want to go bigger. i'm going with a 245/40/19 fr. and a 305/30/19 rear next tire change.

That much stagger would cause a lot of unwanted understeer FYI

+2 for hankook... they need like a 2 to 4 week break in period to really get sticky. But once they are broken in... the can hang through some hard ****.

Mike 02-01-2012 08:31 PM

if you are just driving on the street and not pushing it, the cheapest will do. they all have to pass safety standards.

I was thinking a 265/305 might be better.
I'm going to be setting myself up with a set of the V12s as well pretty soon.

really? should get the DW's at least... no? :)

370Zsteve 02-01-2012 09:11 PM

I've got some OEM's with 12k on them

KillerBee370 02-01-2012 11:42 PM

Apparently the difference in cost between an 18" and a 19" is ridiculous.

I would not mind picking up a set of theses, but they don't make 'em in 305s. :ugh2:

I might be second thinking the 305s though in light of some of the reading I've been doing though. It seems that, even though they might fit on our stock Sport wheels, it's likely that we aren't getting to use all of the rubber that's available due to the pinched nature of the setup.

Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, and interestingly enough, 20s are cheaper that 19s!

I think 265/305 would still be far too much stagger for my liking.

kenoverbey 02-02-2012 08:11 AM

These tires are for a beater, not the Z. I just put back tires on the Z @ 12k.....

FYI I am pretty sure they do come in Nismo sizes. I found some on ebay a few months ago. I didn't buy them but they were definitely advertised with the Nismo tire specs.

Try federal ss595 pretty damn cheap and good reviews. I'm planning to test them out when my tires go bald

edub370 03-12-2012 10:07 PM

only thing i run on my volvo is falkens and hankooks. both great inexpensive tires

Azroadster 03-13-2012 04:08 PM

I'm running V12's, 275/305 stagger with no understeer at all.

AZ

Also, is that on OEM Sport Pkg wheels?

agreed. i wish i went with these now. they're directional and can be flipped if you have camber wear!

cjeezy 03-13-2012 09:00 PM

I guess it depends what you consider cheap. I'm a big fan of the Nitto Invos I got...plus they look badass! They were around $400 a pair mounted and balanced.

I want to know too, as I'm considering the 275/305 with sport rays.

Moi, aussi! Anyone else done this? I put 275's (rear) on my '09 Z with oem 18" wheels without any problems.
