I was washing my Z last night and it dawned on me... I am keeping this car forever.

m4a1mustang 01-29-2012 07:38 AM

I've told myself I'd keep every car I've had forever... ha. Can't cure "car guy."

I too have bought and sold many cars over the years but none of them have grown on me like the Z if this car can be trouble free (for the most part)then I will end up keep it for a long time.

UNKNOWN_370 01-29-2012 08:43 AM

Though I know I will be buying another sports car inside of the NEXXXT 3 years. I know trading my Z won't be part of the package. I will be looking for a
1. Used GT-R.
2. The BRZ refresh with turbo engine???
3. A used EVO MR
4. Genesis coupe redesign
5. Camaro redesign?
6. 5.0 redesign?
7. Used R8 if they hit the sub 60k price range???

One of these cars will be my next after I turned my Z into a TT, 500rwhp A7 with a 100 shot of "the juice".

That is the key part "TROUBLE FREE" for the most part....

LOL:bowrofl:

But my version of trouble free is someone else's version of trade it in,b/c I work on cars for a living so it doesn't bother me to do a little work.:hello:

tower74 01-29-2012 11:07 AM

Before the Z, I had owned nothing but Fords...2001 Cobra (1 of 256..why I sold this one is beyond me), plenty of GT's but like Snakes709 said I got pissed off at my truck at the time(F150 Lariat) and went to the Nissan dealer and about 3 hours later drove off with a 350z. I fell in love with the brand right away and six months later traded it in for the 370z. I will never trade this car away. This is my baby. Problems are going to happen with any car you buy.

Yeah I'm willing to accept small issues as long as I can fix them!

gr8-wrx 01-29-2012 12:48 PM

Another thing, I think a lot of cars that are 2-seaters (like the Corvette) have some folks only holding on to them for a short amount of time...

USINC97 01-29-2012 12:52 PM

Gonna hold on to ours for a while. Only got 4K on the mileage so far. We baby it.

Yep, knowing that my replacement lock is also unreliable I rather joke about it than get upset. :D I could end up paying for 2 new locks or 1000. Yay

IMWEZL 01-29-2012 01:54 PM

I thought about selling my Z for a used CTS-V or a new Charger SRT8 but I'm glad I didn't. Both of those cars are great but I didn't want the headache of the backseats and the rest of the interior getting juice spills, stains and all the other crazy **** kids and spouses do. Hardly anyone rides in the Z and I like that way.

Now if I could only trailer my Harley with the Z...lol

That is was I was refering to, I don't think that any car is going to be "trouble free".

I think he was refering to recalls, a lot of TSBs, etc. that some cars have and would spend more time in the dealership or mechanic than driving it...

No what I was refering to was since I'm a Master ASE mech/master I-car Body tech I'm willing to do anything on my car as long as it doesn't cost me a arm and a leg.

TheGreatOne 01-29-2012 02:51 PM

From people I know personally that have sold their Z's, it seems to be because:

- Only car, needed more room (new baby, etc)
- Too much on insurance/payments
- Not a "Z Enthusiast" so moved on

While this is my first Z, I consider myself a "Z enthusiast" or fanboy lol as I've followed the cars for years and have desired one for a decade. I continue to learn about the older models and hope to pick one up a 240Z down the road

I have a 40th so hope to keep it a long time...I just had a baby so could use that excuse to get rid of it, it would be easier on our budget lol but I think I'll just work harder and get a 3rd car so I can continue to enjoy this machine :)

I also have to think, if u have a car like this on the East Coast, especially where u get bad winters, you aren't driving it for 3-5 months of the year...not everyone can afford that luxury...for some that gets annoying

m4a1mustang 01-29-2012 02:58 PM

I'm definitely a Z enthusiast. Not a fanboy, though. :icon17:

I felt the same way yesterday. I love looking at it, sitting in it, driving it, the appeal it gives me, etc... I haven't had a car like this in a while.

I don't believe Z owners trade their cars anymore than any other car. In fact, I would bet it happens far less. We are just so unaccustomed to seeing Zs sold that when a handful finally do, it seems like it's a lot.

I was on the lot of a carmax here in cally recently, and they had tons of sports cars. Must have been 8+ bmw coupes, several 350s, and so on. But there was only one 370.

PS: I'm not saying one used car lot is representative of anything. Just an example to illustrate my point.

there's also nowhere near as many 370Z's sold as other cars. If your numbers were representative of the norm, it would indicate a higher percentage of 370s being sold.

Almost any given model year of the 350z is more prevalent than the 370z as a whole, not to mention the age difference.

True true.. I myself tend to like change but I still like the exclusivity that the Z has compared to other cars. If mine was not totaled I would probably still have it.

Rarity, not exclusivity. Exclusive implies barriers to entry... like price. The Z is priced for everyone. ;)

A 458 Italia is exclusive.

I just bought a 2010 base 6m sports pkg and had to go all the way to san diego to pick it up and drove home to s.f area. there was only a few in ca. with the specs I wanted.

So it looks like many people bought more car than they could afford, maybe thinking they would eventually get a raise, promotion, or better job, and are correcting that miscalculation.

This is probably true in most of the cases, even the ones not mentioning financial troubles. After all, people like to lie and hate admitting they messed up. Also, many rush purchases like this normally which only exasserbates the problem when you start looking at such a niche vehicle like the Z.
