Cold Air Intake System

Hi to all,

Has any one use a Cold Air Intake System? Did you or a professional mechanic put it on? Are you getting more Horse Power? Thanks!

I've had it put on my previous car. I had a mechanic put it on for me. I definitely felt some more power differences from stock. It also has a cool sucking sound when you turn off engine.

I don't think its worth it though consider the hydrolock, CEL and other issues. My last car wasn't as expensive as the Z so I decided to put CAI on anyway, but for my Z no way. Choice is up to you

Hydrolock? With a Stillen G3 you shouldn't have any problems unless you are doing river crossings! The intakes on the G3 are well protected and are the same height as stock.

This thread is full of win!

On topic though, probably 50% of the people here have an aftermarket CAI installed.

Drop in K&N filters into your factory CAI and save some money.

look at the DIY section and decide for yourself if you need a mechanic

I used Drop in HKS,better low end torque than K&N.

Most likely. Love the sound.

Bought some Gen 3's but have yet to install them. Is the installation really that hard that everyone is using professional mechanics?

If you're just going to do the CAI, then you'll get good gains. But keep in mind that if you do more than 1 breathing mod, the first one will net the most gains while the subsequent ones will have very diminished gains. SO if you know for sure you plan to do a CBE or something, then the CAI may not be worth it for the gains. That being said, there will still be gains, so whether or not it is worth it totally up to you. Read up on it, there are tons of threads on CAIs, CBE, HFCs and their combinations. I personally didn't think the cost was worth it for the CAI after having the CBE and HFCs put on so I just dropped some K&Ns in. Your opinion may be different.
