370Z paint getting chipped by rocks
Where does it happen? What are the "hot spots" on this car? I want to know what needs to be wrapped.
Please use MS paint or something to edit/show me what needs it, if you have a second to do so. Each car is different, and I have found that after owning them a while you figure it out. I wrapped the trouble-spots on my Z06 when I bought it, would like to do the same on the 370Z. Took some research to do it right then, figure it will now, too. http://reviews.cnet.com/sc/34060887-2-440-SD-3.jpg |

On mine, everything below the black line was wrapped. Full hood and front, full front fenders, rockers, pillars and mirrors. I obviously have MS paint skills :icon17:

I've only had issues with mine on the front bumper, hood, and front fenders. |

Thanks! That is what I was figuring. Was quoted $2100 for full hood, fenders (front and rear) Fascia, rockers, roof, A-pillars, and headlights using the new self-healing film from Ventureshield.

This thread is now full of win!

I got my wrapped on the front bumper, I didn't go as far the hood and mirrors, it seems most of the rock chips I got were from there. I think you should be fine with just wrapping the front end, unless you have people throwing rocks at your car. :icon17:

front bumper, hood, front fenders, side skirts and the areas near the rear wheels.

LOLZ at this thread.. think everyone gave you a pretty good direction..

When ever I go to the track I always seem to get hit by #9 shot. Tiny nicks where every body else has mentioned.
What is the name of the part of the car benenth the door going back? The low door frame? I came off the track once and the paint damage here, from gravel was the worst ever. with all the chips the 370 has had, I've covered with touch up paint and nobody notices. |

Just about to hit 7,500 miles. My biggest rock chips are on my side skirts, I'm assuming the shape of the skirts make it easier for rocks to make contact (and some bad luck). Front end is covered with a clear bra, so chipping is very minimal there.

The bottom line is if you use your car, it will get jacked to some extent no matter what you do.

I wrapped the other car n it got wrecked. Left this one alone I have two tiny chips that only I notice because I wash the car. At a glance it doesn't even show. And I'm always driving fast. So I'm guessing nissan paint isn't as sh1tty as previous years? Who knows? Don't really care. I just have fun in my car.

Mine has front bumper, half of hood, and the rockers wrapped. It only has 3 chips on the front end that were there when I bought the car. I think if you use common sense, don't use spacers to put the wheels out past the wheel well, dont peel out of parking lots (loose bits of gravel), and don't ride people's ***, you won't get near as many chips. It's not like a rock is just going to say "look a z!"and throw itself at your hood. It's going to be thrown up by the car in front of you. That's why when I get the z out on Saturday, I'm giving 30 car lengths of cushion in front of me

This is just common sense... If your going to do it right, you do a full wrap on the hood, front fenders, front bumper, mirrors. Done. This goes for any car... If you own a P car you will add small pieces to cover the lower front part of the rear fender.

My 350Z with the more vertical front end seemed to get more rock chips than the 370z I own now does. I still drive the same way I did before and look for that guy that is going to cut me off in his SUV. The SUV's throw up big rocks as they cut across in front of you that lift off where the lane divider are. I just apply a little brake when I see that coming and give them a little more room. The pebbles/rocks then fall short.
Silver is a easy color to touch up and I want to enjoy my car now. So, I just take my chances. You can have the front end of your car repainted in a couple of years if you get too many chips for a couple hundred dollars. Which in many cases is less than what the guys want to wrap your car now. However, if you do not want to have to deal with that: Wrap the front bumper and half way up the hood and the lower rocker panels just in front of the rear wheels. Have the installer bevel / shave the edges of the film so that the edge is less noticible. This may not stop the rock that comes out of nowhere and chips the paint on your roof or door but, it will keep your car looking chip free if you don't mind the dulled look that the film tend to exhibit on some colors. I have three cars where rock chips would ruin the front of the car. The best thing is to avoid the possibility of getting the chips if you can. Generally, the car in front of you is going to throw that rock up at your bumper or hood so giving a bit more space help to lessen the rock chips. |
