The OP was excited because its his dream car and his negotiation skill to get a killer price. If it's off by couple hundred, I would see how "that's still a good deal" apply. But we're talking about couple thousand here. How would you feel if someone stick you like that if you buying......say a house. That would be like 25k (proportion comparison) that you have to fork over on the closing date.

My question to the OP is this......Did you get your deposit back?

No, I don't think I'll close my mouth. Yes it's still a good deal. Dealerships/people make mistakes, I do not know if this was the case here or not. If it was a scam and he can prove it of course he should walk, but otherwise he should take a good deal.

It may still be a good deal. But why pay another $700+ on top of the agreed price which was signed on the contract? That's a binding legal agreement. They should deliver when the buyer had put his hard earned money in the play.

Yes, there was a fine print stating things, but does that apply to this specific situation where the dealer dropped the ball somewhere?

My assumption: the dealer didn't want to take the loss by giving the buyer the agreed price. And if the OP walks away, they can still turn around and sell the car for the right price; given the assumption that the dealer made the mistake somewhere. No loss taken, but time, and potential buyers should the OP names them.

Actually, I think he'd have to pay another $1700, not $700. The dealer wanted another $2400, then said they'd be willing to knock off $700 off of that, which still leaves him dishing out another $1700 to get his car.

Thanks. I got that the other way around.

As my rebuttal goes... Why pay another $2400 (or $1700 should the OP takes it) on top of the agreed price? I say no deal here. The OP did his part and was willing to close the deal.
