Any rumors/schedules of DI coming to Z or GT-R powerplants?
Curious. Anyone hear anything?
I've heard of those "mysterious" blanked out ports in Ford's mighty 5.0 that suggests DI coming to that motor soon. I'm still slightly surprised Nissan hasn't introduced DI in their VQ powerplant, given how venerable the engine is. Even more surprising is the GT-R's lack thereof, but that could be a function of cost. |
It's too new. I haven't heard anything about it coming to the VQ. Like you though, I am surprised the GT-R didn't take a shot at it, especially with the compatibility of FI and DI.

The G37 is scheduled to get DI in 2012 (might be under the 2013 model) which hopefully translates to the Z.

how will that help?? better gas miles??

Yes, infiniti is installing Di...as of 2009, lol. Never happened.

Moving On
Nissan may be using a Benz powerplant in the next generation Z, 2-3 years from now, so why do much more developmental work on the current VQ series motor.

I read they'll be using Daimler's chassis' and putting their own engines in (next.gen. G sedan). |

I have read about compact Infiniti sharing A series chassis with Mercedes. |
I havent seen anything about DI for 2013 for Infinitis. Perhaps I have missed something?
If we dont see a mid cycle update in VQ makes me wonder if they are planning whole new platform that will use Mercedes produced v6? With Infiniti planning Mercedes motors in 2014 is rest of Nissan right behind them? Will Nissan just let 370 Z stand with current VQ until perhaps a new Mercedes motor is built? Is Nissan also in line for Mercedes motors? Or will Nissan use Z as platform for hybrid in 2014? Seems to me brakes have been applied at Nissan on VQ development? Read this its very intersting discussion amongst Mercedes and Renualt http://blog.alliance-renault-nissan....ler-091411.pdf |
I don't want DI unless they figure out how to keep the valves clean. The Audi and BMW DI engines get caked with oil and carbon junk on the valves, a big problem that they fail to address properly. That's why I won't buy one. Go ask the rs4 and S5 guys about their 70k cars with carbon junked valves. Needs to be done every 15k miles or so for cleaning. No thanks. Port injection works just fine.

Yeah no problems with my Mazdaspeed 6 with Direct Injection. Nearly 80K miles on that motor with no carbon build up etc.
