Bird-on-the-mirror Problem: Anyone Got A Solution?

Problem: Birds love landing on the big exterior mirrors of the 370Z. When they take off, they leave a long, streaming line of bird poop extending down the door.

Does anyone have a solution for this probem? How do I keep the birds from "soiling" the side of my Z?

That's an awkward problem. I have no idea what u should do.
Spray some perfum on them. I know that's cats hate the smell of it.

Have any pics of the birds standing on the car...LOL

wstar 05-19-2009 11:37 AM

Someone could make some big bucks if they found a way to mfg an effective ultrasonic bird repeller to mount on cars :)

Ruin their magnetic senses LOL

We need metal side mirrors instead of plastics. Do what is donefor statues. Little electrical current to zap them.

SoCal 370Z 05-19-2009 11:56 AM

Here's your solution (Just be sure to keep your hand off your mirror should the notion strike you.)

In Japan, Nissan released the first-year 370Z (Z34) with electrically folding mirrors.

nogoodname 05-19-2009 02:34 PM

^^ they should move when the bird lands on it...might kill the battery after awhile though....hahaha

Forrest 05-19-2009 03:21 PM

how many birds are doing this? are they doing this at your house?

If they are doing it at your house, i would get out my crossman rifle bb gun, and just remove the bird that does it from the area.

I use to be deadly accurate with a bb gun. bird will land on the mirror, then follow it from there. Or if your really brave knock it off your mirror.

Right now i have a sterlings who took over a nest that a wood peckers just recently built, i am thinking about taking them out becuase they are regular "crap" factorys. But so far i have not seen poop any where except my brother car and i have no idea if it was the sterlings or from parking some where else.

Yeah, an over & under .410 gauge!

nogoodname 05-19-2009 03:27 PM

use a quick detailer on the poop right away before it burns and leaves an ugly mark forever.

Forrest 05-19-2009 03:51 PM

just for the record, you would have to angle it so if you miss the bb shoots by the Z, if you were to miss. Thats IF you was that brave, its easyer to let it fly away to which ever tree then tag it from there.

If i remember correctly a pointed pellet had a straighter path, while a bb did more circle motion as it went through the air.

nogoodname 05-19-2009 04:17 PM

ok, lets not take a risk and start shooting towards our cars.....lol

SoCal 370Z 05-19-2009 04:18 PM

I say f@#k with those birds' minds. Simply modify the point that holds the mirror in place to fall off at just a few ounces. Okay, so the mirror gets a bit bunged up, but the moment is priceless! :happydance:

nogoodname 05-19-2009 04:21 PM

lol...only you.....hahahahaha

sit in the Z, when the bird come, scare the hell out of them.....mini cardiac arrest

ZiGMoN 05-19-2009 04:23 PM

or get this...

wow...that sound was great....hahahahah

but our aluminum hood will get dinged up

SoCal 370Z 05-19-2009 04:28 PM

Actually, I should have recognized the obvious...simply glue a miniature owl atop of each mirror; larger owls for larger birds.

Answering the various questions:

- The car is black. The poop is white (except the berries).

- The birds are at my workplace.

- There are thousands of them, of various species. Kill one, two would take its place. They've got a routine. First, they go poop on my driver-side door. Then, they spend the rest of the day attacking our office windows in an attempt to fend off intruders that look just like them.

- It has been suggested that we add "keeping the boss's car clean" to the Administrative Assistant's job description before we hire her.

SoCal 370Z 05-19-2009 05:03 PM

Car cover.

AK370Z 05-19-2009 05:04 PM

This thread is getting weirder...:wtf2:

Forrest 05-19-2009 05:39 PM

holy that made me laugh out loud for real i didnt see it coming

SoCal 370Z 05-19-2009 05:58 PM

I say beat them to the punch...dress up like a bird and sit on your mirror first! (Please leave out the poop part as you unseat the mirror.)

Throw McDonald's french fries about the parking lot. That'll kill 'em!

Can I interview the candidates for Administrative Assistant?

Forrest 05-19-2009 08:36 PM

Okay 2 other ideas, some one mentioned mount a bigger bird there.

Put a big *** owl stuffed on top of your car with some sort of suction cup mount. Not only will the birds probably not come by but poeple will probably be afraid of the crazy guy who has the owl on top of his car lol.

The other idea is plain evil, poison bird food like Socal 370z said "McDonald's french fries", but something less obvious and nobody would ever know hehe

Too easy.

FlashBazbo 05-20-2009 01:37 PM

Easier still: Today, I tried folding the mirrors when I parked it. No bird droppings.

Time will tell whether it will work for the long term.

fly yellow 05-20-2009 02:00 PM

put a scarecrow on the roof.

o0javi0o 05-20-2009 02:40 PM

Some people put some dried peppers, birds will try to eat them and then, you will never see them again.

Try it. I remember seeing that when I was living in my natal, Puerto Rico.

chubbs 05-20-2009 05:25 PM

Electrify the mirrors?

Anyway, think yourself lucky...

Ooops, maybe I spoke too soon (you know how the birds can't stop looking in mirrors)...
