Car Shows Dos' and don'ts.

Guys and gals, now that the show season is over for the year here on the east coast I have a few things I'd like comments on. I'd like to do a survey but don't know how to do it. So just post comments here. First what is your opinion on displaying past trophies? Me I don't like it. Makes me think either you think I'm impressed by past judging or you don't need another one. Second do you even judge a car that doesn't have it's hood open? I don't. Third how do you judge a trailered car against one driven to the show? If I see a car being pulled off or out of a trailer I don't judge it unless it is a race class. Fouth "which is related to three" does a little dirt on the tires or wheelwells or a couple bugs on the radiator fins reduce your score on your judging? Thanks in advance to all replies. I plan to hit this years ZcarZ and hope to meet alot of the people here.

1 - I never bring old trophies and honestly it has no change on judging a car. If people want to bring old ones fine, but honestly take a look at some of them next time. I have seen everything from local high school trophies to ones the person bought to just 'have a trophy.'
2- If the hood is not open then they do not get the points for engine bay that are possible, also, some people do not show off their engine bay other than for the judge. So this one is hard to know if they just keep closed so people do not steal things.
3 - This one can be tough which is why shows have 'wild' categories where those cars can go. Also I enjoy seeing trophies for the 'daily driver' cars, I know a guy with a s2k with turbo, track wing, etc. who daily drives his car. Takes it to the track when he can and such.
4 - This is a hard one, it comes down to what the 'purpose' of the car is. Is it a true show car or is it a drivers car.

Honestly judging is so worthless I do not care. There are premade plans for numbers and rankings but most of that gets thrown out for any shows. I have been to shows where the 'winners' were picked as they rolled in, the judging was just to make it seem 'fair.'

Tru dat Dreamer. I'm thinking of small to large shows that are participant judged and mainly daily or weekend driven cars. Don't like "pro" judging or "mayors choice" or "club pick".

The other thing about the engine bay one is that not everyone knows what X item under the hood does or means for a car. I have some CF Password JDM pieces and people always freak over them yet they completely overlook the SC setup. This is one reason I never 'show' my car, the car goes to shows and I get to park with Baker Tuning but I never let it get judged, plus I hate paying 10 bucks to have it judged (I am a cheap a$$). :p

LOL Dreamer. I'm not into alot of shows either. I'd rather be cruising or driving in a controlled agressive manner :ugh2: Oh and one of the most asked questions about my car is "does that have a turbo or sc in it"" I say nope your just slow. :stirthepot:

A car in a Car Show should be judge equally by a score sheet in their particular categories.

At least the score sheet should or could include:

Mods
Engine Bay
Exterior
Interior
I.C.E (In Car Entertainment)
Wheels/Tires
Display

And have a total number depending in how deep the score sheet is.

However not every Car Show will be judge the same...

My first car show was with my 370Z. I didn't get points in the "extras" category because I didn't have trophies or photo album next to my car. I was one point away from winning a trophy in the import stock category...and that would have made it official. :(

That sux Easy. I don't think trophies should ever increase a score. What tools.

fire- your tread sounds like you didnt win any trophies and now pissed... (?) :icon17:

LOL you hurt me bro  I placed first in 350/370Z Mod at the East Coast Z Nationals this year. My trophy is right above my computer not in my car :owned: Good to see you in my thread Ken man. I would like to take fastest lap for Z vert at Daytona but we know they are afraid of verts and I don't have a sc yet. :shakes head:

^^ awesome, nice job!

From my limited experiences to date that most judges do not know much about our cars since they are newer and so one needs one of those boards detailing what has been done to the car to point out the work and draw their attention to those items instead of them thinking everything is stock and we just washed and waxed it.

Thank ya Ken. I agree with the display idea. I think a display with vinyl letters would help. Just have to figure out how big and where to put it when going to the show. Oh and I like the hood damper, mighty have to buy one.

it works great to open the hood nice and wide to show off that SC I just put on the car. Picked it up yesterday and the thing is a beast. I am loving it especially when I was keeping up with a GTR I met on the way home. It was funny because he thought he was going to walk me hard and ended up being closer than the thought since we stopped at the same gas station on down the road and talked for a while.
