Naw, just thought I'd post my mods to this thread. No point in making a whole new thread when all my mods can be found somewhere else. Nobody really gives a crap about all my little mods in 2012. But ya never know; some new person may see them here and it may help them out. Like the other thread about my matte radio trim sparked 2 people to ask about the garage door opener DIY. I've gotten lots of help here so I thought I'd just do what I can.

Maybe a Mod can just change the name of this thread to Old Bonzo Contest & Now Journal ???

And what, only a compliment on the mat and boot? What about that awesome mod on the parking brake??????:icon17:;) Of course you'll need to go back a page to see those. Can you handle that??? :nutswinger:

Cheers ---- Bonzo

My original idea was to make it a passenger ejector seat button, but I just didn't want to ruin the rigidity integrity of the roof. :icon17:

Okay, how about some pics of my radio cover mod.

Here's a link to the thread on this.

http://www.the370z.com/wanted/54055-...ml#post1694928

Note: This is ROUND #1 on this mod. I am not done with it yet, hence, only half the pics for now.

Long story here.....
So I've been working on a project for the last month or so and I got down near the end of it being perfect, and crap, it's now certainly not perfect. I put in a JVC detachable face radio in January, and I'm trying to make a "dummy" cover for it. The idea is that when I take the JVC face plate off, I replace it with a stock radio face plate. This way when potential thieves look in the window, they don't see an aftermarket blank space, they see a P.O.S. stock radio and walk the other way.

I've spent a lot of hours trying to make it real nice and as nearly perfect as possible, and I was really doing well. BUT, the last thing I did was add some extra glue to the back of the buttons to make sure they were really held on well, and that was a big mistake. I should have used quick set epoxy or something like that, because the glue has done something I never expected. Instead of setting up and drying quick, it's taking forever, and its ruining the buttons on the front. It's totally dry to the touch and very hard, but it's still "adhering" and "eating" into the plastic buttons from the back. So much so that now all the buttons on front are sort of melted looking and deformed. The digital read out area is also out of whack. It's not so bad that it still won't work for what I need, because I do have #22 tinted windows, so looking inside it's still dark. I mean as it is now, it will "work" for the most part, it's just not all that great looking. I would much prefer it look great so it fits the rest of the car. So I'd like to try it again but I need another stock radio. I'm sure the dealers want WAY more than I'm willing to spend for this. And that's where you all come in. Thanks again!!!!!

Yeah yeah I know. But it's special to ME. :p

I love this car just the way it is, so no major mods for me. Just a bunch of little stuff. You'd be surprised how long this stuff has taken me.

Here's my list of what makes it special.
ALL PRICES LISTED ARE APROX FROM MEMORY, SO DON'T QUOTE ME EXACTLY.

Z valve caps $12

Blind spot side view mirrors $5

Clear bra (bumper, partial hood, partial front fenders, mirrors, A-pillars, partial roof) $425

Hardwire V1 radar detector $20

22% window tint all around $300

Tail lights painted dark smoke $175

Replace chrome Nissan badges with front & rear Z badges $280

Rear "370Z" badging removed

Cover real license plate (ugly Ohio farm one) with old plate style bi-centennial graphics (totally illegal but fun)

Dual built in garage door opener switches to replace dummy buttons on center console $25

Tightened parking brake lever

New JVC detachable face head unit with full time DVD playback and steering wheel control $325

USB plug to inside center console storage area for radio control of IPOD & Flashdrive $15

Mini stereo plug to inside center console storage area of IPOD $15

Back up camera in rear bumper center cap $110

Add non-slip rubber liner material to inside center console storage area

Rear fog light to replace dummy square installed and wired as 4th brake only light $70

Fatmat sound deadener to entire rear hatch trunk area $100

Cover radio console trim with matte finish real carbon fiber $125

Add OEM manual shifter boot to automatic shifter $120

Cover visor air bag warning stickers with black 3M di-noc carbon fiber $25

Added coin holder to driver door storage area $5

Cover door switch trim with matte finish real carbon fiber $200

Cut/chop/sand/glue OEM head unit radio to make dummy cover for when detachable face is removed $35

And lastly, on my future wish list, paint the headlight chrome to black

Bonzo 06-11-2012 01:44 PM

Oh crap, and I just did the math on this modest list of mods.

All in all it's cost me about $2400. Yikes!!!!!

Amazing when you add it all up. I don't think I'll be telling my wife.

:wtf2:

Just edited the post above to show the prices.......

Best deal I got was on the clear bra. I only had to pay $425 for the material kit. My nephew who does car wraps installed it for free. Took him about 6 hours. Best price I got from some guy in town was $875 installed, so minimum my nephew saved me $450.

I guess when you look at it that way it's not so bad. Just still seems like a chunk of change when nothing I did was major. I mean even you, with a trained Z eye said "it" only "looks like a Z." ;) :(

I think the only thing I spent way more than it was worth was for the new Z badges. $135 each is ridiculous for a plastic badge. But, I hated the Nissan chrome burgers on this car so they had to go.

I think doing the head lights might just have to be a dream. I've spent enough on this car for now for sure.

Damned straight!!!!!! :icon17:

Although considering he's 36 I wouldn't consider it illegal. ;)

He offered it up actually; he's really cool.

He even offered to wrap my entire Murano in flat black for $500. So I'd bet he'd do my Z for $300 if I wanted it. Flat black Z might look pretty cool. ;)

Naw, not me. I'm all.....:icon23:

He's probably just been saving up those $500 Christmas presents we give them every year. Naw, on second thought, probably not; I'm sure his wife uses that up on something much more important. Ya know, like clothes or jewelry. ;)

One of my favorite wraps he ever did was this little van. If I recall I think something like this costs 3 or 4 grand, but I forget exactly. Just to show you how little it is, that's me in the last picture. I'm about 5'-11" and weigh about 225. Now now, stop your drooling. :nutswinger:
