Have your car checked thoroughly. You would be surprised to see what is behind the rear fascia that is designed to protect you....bumper armature, energy absorbing foam blocks, etc. This should all be replaced if damaged and not just the fascia.

:iagree: better safe than sorry-after all is settled is NOT the time to find out other things are damaged...happy you walked away from it.

Damn that really sucks mate. People just cannot flat out drive. People are either very distracted or just driving like a-holes and not paying attention.

Just an aside... most likely his brakes were fine... ABS often will keep tires from screeching (anyone that has engaged them knows what I mean)... the point is to keep the car out of a skid and under control. Plus side is better traction in the wet/snow conditions but there are arguments out there that locking up your wheels in a dry environment is probably better.

You shouldn't ever hear screeching/locking when a car has properly working antilock brakes.

wow lol, i didnt realize people read this far back into the threads...in any case all ended well for me. other guys insurance coughed up a check real quick after their adjuster saw the damage :)

just one quick thing. make sure the shop gives you a life time warranty
on all repairs......including all painting... we all know about the nissan paint.

lol, tell me about it, i think ive spent more time buffing and waxing out fine line scratches in the clearcoat than i have driving. picked up some nu finish clearcoat scratch remover and i have to say it takes a little elbow grease to get the scratches out but this stuff really does a decent job of getting rid of minor clearcoat scratches, was actually able to clear up some minor scratches on the rear hatch that i didnt see from the dealer before i took delivery when i first got the Z. as for the rear bumper i decided to just keep it on for now since i was able to take it off and found no damage to the impact foam or anything else for that matter and just put it towards another payment towards getting the Z paid off quicker. cant even tell their is anything wrong with the rear from 5 feet away unless you are really looking so just figured i'd repair it myself later on down the road once i can get ahold of the equipment for it, namely a heat gun and some 2000-2500 grit sandpaper :)

Sounds like you came out pretty good

i settled for around $600 i believe it was, which is exactly what the local nissan dealers body shop was quoting me to repair the bumper, not a huge sum of money, but it did help to put a big dent in the principal amount i owe on the Z :)

What does this mean "diminished value state" and why would that have been to your advantage?

My wife was hit from behind in her Acura by a girl driving with a suspended license and no insurance!

And when my son was young he was driving a convertable and the sun blinded him and he pulled right in front of an oncoming car that luckily only hit his tail...if he had turned a fraction of a second later it would have been a full head on..
(Honestly, I dont think he was paying attention,..had three other kids in the car...)
