2012 Navigation Package
I've been checking New Inventories for local dealers and I've noticed that none of the 2012 models on the lots have the nav package installed. I remember there being a shortage a couple of months ago. Does Nissan still have a shortage on the navigation systems? Or do the first batch of cars that go to the dealers not come fully-loaded?

When I purchased my 2011 Z in mid-August it was one of the few Z's with Nav in the Houston-DFW-San Antonio area. There were like maybe three.
I've read on this forum that Nissan is putting the few (realtively speaking) Nav systems they have in their higher-end cars. Blame the earthquake. |
I found that nav equipped Z's were in low supply when I was shopping for mine. In fact the dealer told me there were only 4 in the nation that had my options (touring+sport+nav.....fully loaded). Most people don't seem to want the factory system, but I LOVE mine!

Nissan's navigation plant was heavily damaged in the earthquake/tsunami... they're probably not operating at full capacity still and cars like the Maxima/infiniti line-ups would get the priority rather than the z.

I'm actually entertaining the idea of putting a Nismo front end on my car. tjlaser has one and the car looks fantastic. I just need to find a reliable and reasonable body shop who can do it. I think the parts alone are $2,500. It would be nice if Nissan were to offer the Nismo nose as part of the Sport Package. |

whats going on my dealership, at least, is that theres been such a high demand for so long now that our inventory manager is grabbing as many as possible with Nav.

The part I like best about the Nav is the music box, which is the primary usage the nav system gets. |

The main reason I ordered my 2012 with the Nav Package was for the backup camera. I would prefer seeing it on the big screen rather than on the rear-view mirror. As of now, on the confirmation paper, it says prod date is 10/11 and eta is 12/11....still no VIN #
Is there anyone I can call or email who would have a good idea of when navigation systems will be available or when the 2012 orders will be built with the nav package installed? |

I used to live in Covington (up until April this year), and the local dealer there rarely had more than one or two cars in stock. I recall seeing more G37 coupes than 370Z's around there. |

To OP about shipping. The problem I ran into is that until the car is at the dealer...no one seems to be able to track the things. It gets off the boat, stored at port, loads onto a train and ships to a destination warehouse. Once there they have 5-7 days to unload it from the train, then it can sit in the warehouse for another 5-7 before it is picked up to be transported to the dealer. From the time they found out mine was on the train, it took over 3 weeks for it to get to me. I was amazed at how crappy tracking is on a $40,000+ car. I've gotten better tracking on a $2 ebay part. :icon14: |
not a nissan but similiar story, we were looking at Audis for the wife and all their Nav systems were missing a chip needed for the back up cameras. So if you bought an Audi with Nav you had to take it back in a couple of months to have a chip installed for the back up camera. whenever the chips arrived from Japan.

The dealer I bought my 2009 from in May of 2010 had eight or more coupes to choose from. They must not have been selling well so they blew them out* and have never had more than two or three on the lot since. Tuesday just one, a 2011.
* roadsters were marked $7500 off sticker three months later. |
