Good deals on extended warranty?
 

Hi, anyone get a good cheap price on extended warranty from their dealership, or buy some from another dealer online?

I need to get one for our Altima, and will probably get one for my Z when it's up.

I bought one for my Yamaha R1 thru Ebay awhile back and got a really good price. Way cheaper than through my local dealer.

Look into the Nissian dealership in Santa Rosa, CA for pricing. By far the most reasonable for extended warranties. Should be able to find an old thread on the subject matter.

These cars most likely won't have any problems. When nissans are problematic? They show in the first 30,000 miles. If you own an auto cvt altima from 07 to current? You have a 10/120 on the transmission which will be the only part likely to give you problems. Read your warranty book. Certain parts last longer than the basic 5/60 warranty. Really do your research and see if these cars are really worth paying $1500 to $2000 in warranty. That's just my opinion though having owned so many nissans, I've yet to encounter any issues on there bread and butter cars.

You might be right but if you plan to keep the car a while the peace of mind is worth it if the avac unit or electronics were to go on it

As long as you have money in your bank account to pay for any unanticipated repairs, then in the long run you will come out way on top by never buying an extended warranty.

Considering how complicated, new and the number of teething issues these cars have had, was glad to get the dealer to include it in the deal for a one year old 2009.

This has been talked about and debated to death in the warranty forum where it really belongs. Both sides have merit and he's not asking for opinions on if he should get an extended warranty. FWIW I also bought my warranty from Nissan of Santa Rosa and they have VERY GOOD prices.

Well if you want to take it there I can tell you right now that Care Guard warranty supercedes nissans standard warranty. Not only do they repeat every legality in your standard oem warranty, they flip the script and add things like roadside assistance. Something nissan won't cover, they will wrap around your warranty to extend into another bumper to bumper coverage for 5/60 where nissan will only honor another extended warranty for half the years and the same miles. Careguard gap pays accident claims within 10 days and the comprehensive maintenence plans are just as good as any dealer and the overall cost to features of the CareGuard warranty supercede nissans offerings. Honestly, nissans overall warranty amenities are a weak point compared to some other OEM and private plans that offer more.

"Good deal" and "extended warranty" in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

Just remember that you can wheel and deal on warranties. The finance guys have a quota to hit. I know when I was selling cars a couple of the the guys in finance would give me a kick back for pushing the warranty during the sales process. When I bought mine I was able to work a good deal and play a couple of dealerships against one another. So don't be afraid to work numbers :)

...why would you ever need one? i have 76k on the odo and no issues. i blew a fuse putting led's in yesterday but other than that no issues

I'm on my 2nd transmission dealership billed Nissan for $7k on that one. Also a cam sensor and fuel pump. So the $1.2k I paid for my warranty is worth the piece of mind.

^^ This was covered by the existing factory warranty. This is exactly why the extended warranty retailers make a killing. Most major $ issues show up while the car is still under factory warranty. I guess it's funny how that "piece of mind" aspect factors into the cost/benefit analysis -- nobody would take those odds at a casino.

I had the dealer give me an extended warranty, after going through a lot of grief. I would of never purchased it, and would never recommend it. Extended warranties are upsell only, and Nissan is one of the worst dealer service experiences pretty much. You will be paying $50 deductibles, and really, do you feel the car will disintegrate after 2 years of ownership?

Not at all! He's not asking for options, it's very clear he is looking for the cheapest price on the dealership warranty. Why not stay on topic?

I'm confused about what you are talking about? Do you mean Quality Guard? That is for Pre-owned vehicles. The 3 levels of warranty for Nissan is:

Gold Preferred
Gold Plan
Silver Preferred

Many people go for the Gold preferred and it does cover unlimited roadside assistance. Seriously IMHO it's a mistake to buy a third party warranty but that's your choice. The Gold preferred even covers belts and hoses.

So if the topic was "I got an email saying I'd get $100K if I sent $5k to Nigeria. Should I use Western Union or Bank of America to transfer the money", then the only proper response would be to give the original poster your preference on wire transfer companies? :stirthepot:

High Roller?? Hmm, if anything is the truth it's that I'm cheap as hell. That's why I think buying an extended warranty is a rip-off. Anyway I'm not *telling* anyone what to do. Just giving an opinion. And the last post was simply a hypothetical example of when it would be clearly "OK" to to say "none of the above" instead of keeping to the question of A or B. :tiphat:

Based on the fact that my wife and I keep our cars way past the time the normal warranty expires, I buy extended warranties. The last vehicle I did not buy a warranty for was our 2001 Honda Odyssey. The post warranty repair costs were almost double what a warranty would have cost.

Further, we just had over $450 in repairs covered on our 2007 MDX, and still have another two years and 40K in warranty coverage.

Everyone has different experiences and comfort levels. For me, owning a $40k+ car with all the power conveniences, stereo and nav system, that I drive everyday, and plan on driving every day for at least the next five years, is a whole different paradigm than owning the 1977 Datsun B-210 I had in college.

^^ You're right. Individual experiences and comfort level may vary. My point is that most people, in the long run, will pay out more in premiums for extended warranties than they'll ever save in warranty repairs.

It's just like insurance in that most people will pay more in premiums than they will have saved in covered claims. That's how the companies make their money. The difference between a warranty and standard house/car insurance is that the consequences of not being insured can be much worse than not having an extended warranty.

That said, people should decide based on a thorough evaluation of the costs and benefits and what they could comfortable shell out if something did go wrong.

I bought the premium gold prefered at 5 yrs 100000 miles for 975.00 dollars. To me that is a drop in the bucket.

Last car warranty I bought was 5 yr at 1200.00 dollars. With that vehicle I had 2 repairs that covered 2300.00 in repairs plus a free rental on one occasion. Money well spent.

Look I am not big on warranties but if or when it comes to large ticket item purchases I will listen. If I can get a great price, AKA: 5yr 100000 for 975.00 I am possibly in. I might not ever need it but I know most people will piss away that amount of money easily in a year. To each there own on warranties. :tup:
