Which car to buy?
I'm looking for a new to car buy, it's gonna be my DD so here are the choices
1. 370z 2. 335i coupe 3. g37s |
370Z all day =))
|
Got some more details on what you are looking to do with the car?
|
Drive them, that might help.
|
335iS
|
You'll need to drive them (and change 335i to 335is :D ).
Buddy LOVES his 335i - but he's a cruiser, totes friends around, and likes long drives. I believe the G37S (if it's similar in character to my now gone '04 G35) is about the same. The Z demands a bit more involvement; what I like in a car. Two different genre's - you'll need to test drive and decide. |
Really you are on a 370z site.
370z All day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Considering your wnter weather, I think G37x might be best.
The 370Z is ok in light snow, but doesn't see to handle it as well as the NSX did (heavier, larger tires, etc.) on my all season winter tires. |
Wrong climate to have a 370Z as a DD (and perhaps) only car...so unless you have a winter beater, I would advise against a 370Z. Even if you invest in a set of snows (which many don't think about, there is a several G cost for those) its not a great idea IMHO.

Thanks for your feeedbacks!
I won't be doing anything special, I'll only be driving home/school and with friends. I'm leaning towards the 335i coupe with the M sportpackage, the 335iS is a bit too expensive for me so thats out. Yea, I thought about the winter problem too with the Z and I don't think it will go well lol |
Think long and hard before buying a DD with just two seats. Doesn't work for everyone.

whatever you do, dont get a 370z. you will regret it and trade it in for a evo or a mustang

If by any chance money becomes an issue, I might stick with the Z instead of the 335i.
I'm 18 and soon I'm going to college, which I'll be commuting to. I can take public transportation in poor weather conditions and I'm not going to be driving anyone around since all my friends have cars too, unless I have to, like a girlfriend or sister. Should I still get teh Z or nO? |

u gotta drive em all and decide whats going to be more important to you. do you care about having only 2 seats? i dont, i have a DD (Murano) that i drive when needed and during the winter. do you more luxury, hi bmw. do you want all wheel drive, hi g37x. unfortunately you gotta be in the driver seat urself and see. i test drove audi a5, the g37x, and the Z, and eliminated the g instantly, it just wasnt for me. you will have to do the same, don't have other people make the decision for you, let them guide you though.

So yup - AWD is probably the best bet... :p |

@OP you'll need AWD in ny for the winters |

Honda Civic or Accord 4 door, or Subaru Impreza wagon (not a WRX/STI). A beater doesn't have to be ugly, but they are efficient, cheaper to insure, fit people, and if you smash something up lots of parts. You want something to fit all your stuff back and forth to school. I see enough byproducts of rich parents driving 50K cars around campus here in PA (my wife is a professor at my alma mater). Even if you have bought the car with your own money, it sure does put off an image I think is less then flattering. If you are dumb enough to pay 40-50K for a car while going through school on your own dime, then you will leave school with an arse load of loans that will bury you financially for years to come. 10K in used car...bank 40K while at school while investing smartly, graduate, pay down large bulk of any loans and keep on truckin' :) Just a few thoughts, - b |
Oh Forgot to say my parents are buying me this car. Those three cars were suggested by my parents. Also they wont let me drive any of these cars in winter, they each own a awd car so i can drive those

Agree. College car ends up door dinged scratches etc. By a reliable practical college parking lot driver. Impress your family with graduation and some money in your pocket. just a thought.... |
I'm looking for a new Family, are you my long lost brother!
|
335xi or G37x since this will be your DD. 370Z is only good as a DD in your climate if you have dedicated winter wheels and tires.
|
Unless you get winter rims and some blizzaks.
Honestly, with the weather in NY you are better off with an awd car. |
the Z is TERRIBLE as a DD, go get a bimmer

I had the G37S before, 370Z now, the wife has the E92 335i now.
if you want luxury the 335i > G37, more sporty then 370z I didn't like the G37S that much, leather felt cheap, too much wear during the first 2 years of ownership (got it new). Inside still feels like a Nissan, drivetrain was really noisy and rough for a luxury car. Slower than 335i as well. The E92 335i has many problems though. Here is a list of things I brought it in for: 1. Recall for high pressure fuel pumps, fuel injectors etc. All replaced. 2. Immediately after they did the recall work, had a turbo leak, some where was losing pressure causing the engine to be in the "safe mode". 3. Battery died, covered under BMW warranty. 4. Passenger cup holder stopped working.' 5. Just last week I took it in for an exhaust gasket leak LOL your choice |

I will probably follow your lead, Brazil. I was thinking about trading in for a new 911 but what I really want is a 5.0 + 370Z Roadster. :yum: |
